The Fourth Plinth Project
London’s Trafalgar Square features plinths in all four corners and since the mid 1800’s three of the plinths have had permanent status, although the fourth was never made due to a lack of funding and since has remained empty. In 1999, the The Fourth Plinth Project was conceived and comissioned by the local government, with the aim of featuring contemporary art work on the plinth for a temporary period. Six impressive artist’s are on a shortlist of proposals that have just been announced for the next work to be featured. Jeremy Deller, Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Yinka Shonibare and Bob & Roberta Smith are the names behind the designs and you can check out there proposal’s below. Models of the six proposals are on show from 8 January 2008 until 30 March 2008 at the Annenberg Court, the National Gallery. Thanks to Andrew Bunney for the heads up.
