Photographer Paula Nelson has begun documenting the extensive damage to the Eastern Seaboard following Hurricane Sandy. One of the most severe storms to hit the region in recent history, the super storm has caused damage of upwards of $20 billion (some estimates go as high as $50 billion) and cut power to millions. These powerful images are a potent reminder of the deadly force of nature.

Many people in Manhatten still need help. This from GOLES:

“It’s still critical here in the Lower East Side and tomorrow it will be no different. We still need people to come out and volunteer to spread the word about relief options. 169 Avenue B, between East 10th and East 11th Streets. Volunteers should arrive between 12pm and we’ll be here until 8pm. We are targeting our most vulnerable populations, our Elders and our Handi-Capable Folks. Spanish, Mandarin, and Cantonese Speakers are always welcomed!!”
