Lebanon and Abu Dhabi-based practice MZ Architects have unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art sports facility dubbed the “Rock Stadium” to be built in Al Ain, UAE. With a brief that challenged the designers to combine architecture and landscape, MZ have created the spectacular 200,000 sqm colosseum-like structure which, when built, will effectively exist as part of the desert itself. Taking inspiration from the first Greek amphitheaters, the stadium will use local materials in construction to ensure the building is in keeping with its environment. (via Designboom)
