The 5 Best-Dressed Men From The 2014 Oscars Didn’t Always Dress So Well…
For this year's Oscars, Pitt crushed a Tom Ford shawl collar. In 1996 though, he had not only a different escort, but a different, more Miami Vice-meets-morbid gigolo. The years have been good to Brad.
This year, the Wolf of Wallstreet wore a clean tux from Giorgio Armani. Back in 2005, he looked like a dressed-up undertaker, but did have Giselle on his arm. So, I guess he kind of nailed it?
Though Spacey isn't known for his on-point dressing, his 2014 choice of a blue Burberry outfit was exactly that. Back in 1999 though, he looked like a dumpy waiter from a New York steakhouse.
McConoughey capped his renaissance with the Oscar for 2014's Best Actor, dominating the red carpet in a classic cream coat. In 2011, he wasn't even invited to the Oscars, trying his best to look Oscar-worthy on the Vanity Fair Oscar After-Party, but mostly just looking unremarkable.
For his Supporting Actor win last night, he sported Saint Laurent. However, though Jared Leto's been destroying acting roles since before Fight Club, he, like McConoughey, hadn't gotten the Oscar invite until this year. So, you'll just have to look at his Dallas Buyers Club outfit for some historical style reference.
Though he didn't take home an Oscar for "Happy", Pharrell rocked the all-Lanvin-everything tux, complete with close-cropped shorts. Evidently they don't allow hats on the Oscars Red Carpet because he didn't have his requisite Mountie hat.
When it comes to Red Carpet style, the men of the 2014 Oscars pretty much nailed it, finding a way to bring interest and awesomeness even to the conservative (which is code for insanely boring) awards show.
However, this year’s best dressed gentlemen — Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Matthew McConoughey, and Jared Leto — didn’t always dress so well. In fact, it’s taken them a while to figure the whole tuxedo thing out, and for a newly Oscar nominated few, it’s taken a whole career of dressing their best just to get an opportunity to tux-up for the Oscars.
