Facebook has formally launched A) another way to raise revenue and B) another reason for you to not use the social media platform anymore. It’s basically video ads — TV commercials — that launch automatically as you scroll through your newsfeed. Each is a 15-second ad pop-up that’ll play sound and maximize if clicked.
As you may or may not know, since going public Facebook has struggled to convince Wallstreet types and advertisers that they can make a profit on mobile devices with more ads. Now, having at least sort of solved that problem with these video pop-ups, the new problem they’ll face is how to convince young people that they still want to use Facebook.
