Throwback Thursday: Cam’ron Is Making Capes The Hottest New Fashion Accessory, But Another Rapper Actually Beat Him To It
When Cam’ron closed out Mark McNairy‘s Fall/Winter 2014 NYFW show sporting one of the items from his new 5-piece cape collaboration with the New York designer, both the Hip-Hop and fashion world ignited with buzz.
Some people loved it. Some people hated it. But seemingly everyone agreed that the king of pink fur was once again fashion-relevant, doing something that no one else could: bring back capes for men/non-vampires (see below).
The only problem? It’s not actually the beloved Dipset rapper who brought back capes. Actually, it was the hip hop community’s least loved rapper who did that: Back in April 14th, Macklemore arrived on the 2013 MTV Movie Awards red carpet wearing a custom-built Mariachi cape…
Say what you want about the guy who made the ear-murdering “Thrift Shop” song, but if capes are back, unfortunately he was the first to make that a thing. Sigh.
