Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino released the full [director's cut] version of his short film Clapping For The Wrong Reasons last night via his personal blog site. This is to much relief for followers of Glover that have been curious as to what the hell this thing is, the actor/rapper/now-filmmaker having teased the release a few weeks back with random, bizarre clips of Chance the Rapper playing Connect Four with Trinidad Jame$, porn star Abella Anderson hanging around in nothing but a t-shirt, and just general weirdness taking place in a mansion in California. The end product is a 24-minute experimental, day-in-the-life film piece that seems to be communicating something deeper than we can expect to fully grasp on the first view. Having said that, the more it’s watched the more it’s understood (as much as it can be) and even the first view warrants a natural feeling of appreciation for Glover’s ability to be a successful chameleon when it comes to shuffling mediums of self-expression. Further, Glover tells us via tweet that this short film is “in memory of a close friend [he] lost this year”. The short also features appearances by Danielle Fishel (Topanga of Boy Meets World) and hip-hop producer Flying Lotus. Czech it out above.
