5 Minutes with… Ian Paley

Ian Paley’s Garbstore is a brand, and store for that matter, that in our opinion can do no wrong. Ian’s no newcomer to the scene, quite the opposite, while Garbstore is reasonably new, Ian comes from an esteemed background, and Garbstore is merely the culmination of all that experience. We took 5 Minutes of this busy man’s time.

PORTRAIT1

Name: Ian Paley

Location: London

What’s 2010 going to be about for you? Looking beyond the old without the knee jerk reaction that’s coming. Finding the right balance between technology and history.

What are the worst trends in menswear today? So so many. But we need the bad don’t we? I’m not a fan of things that intentionally don’t fit for the purposes of style. Be great to say goodbye to the slightly too short look.

Whats the best thing to come out of 2009 menswear trends? Appreciation of quality and a better understanding of realistic pricing.

What’s the must have item for any man in 2010? Ultra clean technical jacket, mono tone, heat sealed, triple layer. A pure piece.

What’s your favourite thing about where you live? Everything. Living, working, educating, learning all within a half mile radius.

What are you reading? Operation Mincemeat. Cads with moustaches, silently winning the war for Blighty. Inspiring. A great reminder of what makes Britain great.

What’s the next film you’ll watch? I would like to Re-watch sam Taylor woods Nowhere boy. Anne Marie Duff put in such a stunning performance, deserves a second look.

Your favourite store in your city? My favourite stores tend to be in other peoples cities, kind of the reason why I started my own. If pushed it would have to be Norton & Sons on Saville Row. it’s a living breathing anchor point for modern menswear, priceless history pours out of every draw.

Whats the best thing to come out of Blog Culture? Blog culture skates on the edge of a knife, Good knowledge and reason is peppered with mis-information and hate. I think we are a point where things are starting to improve and some pretty good voices are gaining a respectable and loyal following. I think these days you have to have the faith that the public will do the right thing, listen to the right guy and react responsibly. Thank fully our world now has it’s voices and collectively blog culture is now providing a very stable platform that people can trust and to some extent live by.

Check out Garbstore today.
