Growing up in New Zealand, I was heavily influenced by brands such as NOM*d, and sister brand Zambesi. I always felt as though these brands were heavily influenced by the famous Antwerp 6, but could never decide whether that was a good thing, given my personal liking to the Belgian designers in question or not. After seeing NOM*d’s show in Auckland last night, I’ve finally decided on a positive outcome, imagine Rick Owens, mixed with Margiela and clean and wearable colouring added, thats pretty much NOM*d to me, this collection was heavily in keeping with the deconstructed and Grunge incarnations the Dunedin based brand is best known for, and the reason for this style becoming signature to New Zealand fashion around the world.
