First introduced in the Winter 1994 season for running, the Nike Air Footscape represented an innovative approach to fit based purely on the foot’s anatomy. The shoe was designed to relieve pressure on the vulnerable blood vessels and nerve endings on the top of the foot. The innovative side lacing system gave the shoe a sleek and aerodynamic look. The beauty of the Nike Footscape is that it remains fresh and compelling 14 years later. After years of remixing the Nike Air Footscape with other Nike innovations, pairing it up with a Nike Free sole and the Air Max 360, the Nike Sportswear footwear design team chose to veneer it with a microstripe shirting material, as well as a Nylon woven detail holding the upper and the midsole together, to give it a contemporary cultural twist for Spring 2009.
