This time we go to Berlin for our next interview, with Steven Vogel. Having lived abroad for many years in the like of Warsaw and London and having worked on many significant projects, most notably the Streetwear book he compiled and now works with the likes of Burton and is the man behind the website Black Lodges.
SlamxHype – Whats the best thing about the place you were born?
Steven Vogel – The place where I was born is not even on most German maps, it’s a dark, lonely, scary little village in the middle of nowhere. The closest city where I did my first “growing ups”, Hamburg, is the most rocking city in Germany, period. The real kind, not the fake provincial shit here in Berlin, but real sailor tattoo style rock n roll. My other home, London, well, that would take to long.
SXH – Whats your main consumer vice?
SV – Alcohol and cigarettes, guitar strings.
SXH – Which 3 people would you want to have dinner with, if you could eat with anyone? Friedrich Nietzsche, Alisteir Crowley and Ian SV – MacKaye all at the same time please.
SXH – Whats your favourite website not related to streetwear, art or fashion?
SV – www.stonerrock.com
SXH – Best new fashion/streetwear brand of 2008?
SV – Christ, what do I know about fashion…, Garbstore continues to blow me away, Mountain and Naval Research and on a streetwear tip, FUCT, ANX and Answer, Pointer and Carhartt Europe.
SXH – Best song thus far in 2008?
SV – “Clenching the Fists of Dissent” by Machine Head regularly kicks my ass so far this year.
SXH – Best decade for music?
SV – 1988-1998
SXH – Best decade for art?
SV – Renaissance
