There’s been a lot of talk about Kanye West’s “Bound 2” music video. Most of the chatter has been centered around the idea that the video looks like KidPix had a baby with a Hallmark mother’s day card in the back of the Oregon Trail wagon. And while that’s all well and good, we couldn’t help but notice that the video looks strikingly similar to another super awkward couple’s desperate attempt to let the public know -No seriously… we like each other. We, like, love each other – in music video form. That would be Michael Jackson and Marie Presley’s “You Are Not Alone.” So how did ‘Ye rip off The King Of Pop?
Both videos prominently feature Yeez and Mikey soliloquizing the questions of life: “Everyday I sit and ask myself how did love slip away?” asks Michael, “Have you ever asked your bitch for other bitches?” wonders Kanye.
Both videos feature a bit of the head turned whisper, in an undisclosed location, where both of the women are presumably being held captive. Marie never leaves that weird coliseum, and Kim never gets off that motorcycle. We never get a clear shot of their ankles. My guess? Shackles.
Both videos feature pretty blatant physical threats. Kanye’s infamous “Creative Genius Shush” and Michael’s “Bitch I’ma Slap You Upside The Head.”
Both videos feature multiple displays of what can only be described as “God Complex,” though Kanye had that psychosis renamed “Yeezus Complex,” this year. Michael can definitely expect an angry letter for ripping off Ye’s moves 18 years ago.
And finally, both videos literalize the couples’ vision of affection: they’re both in hell.
