While it was Warhol, Haring and the like that brought the art world to the acknowledgment that there were faces behind the canvas, West German artist, Joseph Beuys, was one of the first to "self-mythologize" through his works. NYC’s Jack Hanley Gallery is currently exhibiting 33 signed posters from the period 1969-87. The works act not only as a symbol of his accomplished work but as a timeline of Beuy’s own life within the art world. More info at The Moment.
