The Tate Britain is currently recruiting a team of runners to take part in the work of art by Martin Creed, Work No. 850, developing from the 1st July through to the 16th November 2008.
Work No. 850 aims to be the purest expression of the beauty of human movement. The work will operate in this way: every 30 seconds, a runner will sprint through the gallery. Between each departure, music will play. A pure celebration of the body and the human spirit.
On the site Running Project, the Tate invites you to be an actor for this performance:
"You have to cover the 86 metres from the gallery sprintant in less than 15 seconds. After the sprint, you reach the point of walking, and you will this race about every 2 minutes for half an hour (roughly 15 sprints), maintaining a steady pace during each sprint.
The runners of the core team selected by the Tate and Martin Creed must commit to a minimum of 4 sessions of half an hour each a day, punctuated by periods of rest. You will be able to commit for a minimum of 3 days per week (possibly on weekends) until 16 November 2008. "
All runners selected will be fully equipped by Puma for the entire duration of the exhibition.
