Yves Saint Laurent is without a doubt one of the most influential fashion figures of all time, in a time when we celebrate his life and the impact he had and will continue to after his passing, heres an oppurtunity to look deeper into his history with 2 documentaries. Available at Film Forum, where they both premiered originally in 2002.
YSL: HIS LIFE AND TIMES is an intimate biography featuring extensive interviews with the reclusive designer. It includes current as well as archival interviews from the 1960s and 70s – with St. Laurent’s mother, his lover and business partner Pierre Berge, muse Loulou de la Falaise and admirer Lee Radziwill. At age 3 he advised his aunt that her dress and shoes did not work together and at 19 he began designing for Dior. In 1962 he and Berge opened their own fashion house and in 2002 they closed their custom dressmaking business.
YSL: 5, AVENUE MARCEAU, 75116 PARIS is a behind the scenes look inside Saint Laurent’s legendary atelier during the creation of his final Spring line and is a record of the master examining final versions of his designs. The clothes themselves have a starring role: spectacularly beautiful, made of the most exotic and fragile materials, modeled by women whose dimensions defy reality.
