To the collective dismay of fashion goths and dragon trainers around the world, Belgian fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester has announced her retirement from the fashion world. This is incredibly disappointing news not only for fans of the brand, but for the industry as a whole. Demeulemeester, who rose to prominence as part of the “Antwerp-Six” group of core Belgian designers, announced her retirement via a hand written letter yesterday:

“As a young girl, I dreamed of having a voice in fashion. I worked hard to realize this dream and now I feel that I accomplished this mission. I have always followed my own path. A new time is coming both for my personal life and the brand Ann Demeulemeester. I feel it’s time to separate our paths.”

Demeulemeester went on to state that her final design input will be for the Men’s and Women’s Fall 2014 collections, to be unveiled February 27, 2014, then debuted at Paris Fashion Week. Whilst it’s a shame Demeulemeester is set to part ways with the company, the designer leaves behind a storied legacy. We hope she announces a comeback sometime in the near future.
