For its AW12 collection, Ben Sherman explores the legacy of the Mods and Rockers – rivals to be sure – but re-imagines them as a reluctant meeting of minds and a sharing of styles. Obvious inspiration can be found in the neat tailoring of the Mods, combined with the roughness and grit of the rockers. This culture clash can be seen in individual pieces, like the Parka – classic Mod wear – which, while created in ballistic cotton canvas, is given  a makeover with its sleeves sculpted from buffalo leather. This fusion of styles creates a not-unwelcome confused silhouette, taking tailoring and adding an intentional sloppiness to it – seen particularly in the trousers presented this season. The overall look, however, is quite clean and considered, and refreshingly original.
