Father-son design duo Casely-Hayford continue to channel sporty vibes in their SS14 outing at London Collections: Men, following on from the macho ice hockey inspiration that was sewn into their FW13 collection, with a more passive, but equally youthful homage to skateboarding. While not inherently obvious in the bespoke tailoring, the title of the collection “Secret Colonies” is a reference to skateboarding subculture, and the collection itself can be seen as an homage to London’s iconic Southbank skate spot – which is currently in danger of being turned into a string of shops and cafes by developers. As far as collections go however, this one was indeed thoroughly Casely-Hayford, seamlessly marrying impeccable tailoring with nods to sportswear and embodying current global menswear trends in the process.
