Here is a look at three new films from the Levi’s Film Workshop! centered around a subject we can all relate to, food! Known as The Hunger, this series of “food x film” collaborations celebrated the local food movement in LA through various film projects, classes and special events.  Three short films were made in collaboration with the Workshop, each focused on a different pillar of the local food movement:Growing, Preparing and Serving. The Hunger culminated last night with the premiere of these three films at the Workshop in downtown Los Angeles.

GROWING: To portray the Growing theme, Art in the Streets associate curator Aaron Rose partnered with acclaimed music supervisor Randall Poster on a short film entitled Wild Goodness. The project celebrates the Margaret Kilgallen Memorial Farm (built outside the Workshop at MOCA), a site-specific edible “bike farm” that included organic fruit and vegetables and utilized a combination of traditional planter boxes and mobile planters on bikes. (Margaret Kilgallen passed away in 2001 from cancer and is an exhibiting artist in Art in the Streets.) The farm was designed by San Francisco-based artists Futurefarmers and was tended by Tara Kolla of Silver Lake Farms. Wild Goodness was created entirely by participants and collaborators at the Levi’s® Film Workshop.

PREPARING: The Preparing film, The Sound of Heat, pairs world-famous Chef Ludo Lefebvre with Italian-filmmaker Lorenzo Fonda. The film focuses on Chef Ludo’s experimental cooking and the unusual – but delicious – dishes that have resulted.

SERVING: The Serving film, Feast of Fury, features traveling LA landmark Kogi BBQ truck, a favorite mobile eatery serving Korean Mexican tacos day and night. Director Dugan O’Neal teamed up with Kogi to create an action-packed short film, all about serving high-end food on a budget.
