Our fam at the boutique creative agency Catharsis have been doing non-profit programs for kids and are now in the middle of raising funds via Kickstarter to continue a program bridging artists and NYC kids via after-school programs.

There’s only 19 days left and they are almost halfway to their $7000 goal! Click through and be a part of something good: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/beat/beatboxing-program-for-blind-kids-in-the-bronx

[…participate at any level – even if you pledge just $5 you’ll get a free mixtape from DJ Light (Tokyo) w/ cuts by J-Smoke (The Allies).]

A quick recap:

B.E.A.T (Bridging Education & Art Together) kicked off last year as they partnered with Hip Hop pioneer Ken Swift as program director for an after-school dance program. Teaming up with non-profit The Urban Assembly, they quickly expanded to a second program.

The BEAT ROCKERS program was next up – partnering with Singer/Musician Taylor McFerrin as program director to design and teach a beat-boxing program for the Lavelle School for the Blind in the Bronx.

To support the B.E.A.T. KICKSTARTER fundraiser: B.E.A.T. has until March 9 at 3:55p.m. EST to reach its goal of $7,000 in pledged support. Supporters are promised some great loot (depending on pledge level), including the Beat Rockers’ first album and mixtape, books, albums and photos signed by hip hop legends and B.E.A.T. instructors, and, of course, plenty of merch.

All funds raised will be used to provide this program for the next three months at the Lavelle School for the Blind. The money will go towards teaching fees, transportation, guest instructors, equipment rentals, and basic expenses.

So kudos to everyone involved (and kudos to you if you get involved.)

We’ll leave you with some more goodness from Taylor McFerrin – check out his recently dropped music video for his single “Place in My Heart.”
