Apparently every rapper needs a signature sports shoe. Kanye West has a new deal with adidas, and now Drake has linked with Jordan Brand as the imprint’s newest official signee. Drake broke the news last night at his Would You Like A Tour? stop in Oregon. He paused mid-concert, and after complimenting Portland’s ample population of single women, went on to explain that “Today also happens to be one of the best days of my life. So today, I came to Portland and officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family.” Watch the video above and see it happen for yourself. Soon afterwards, Jordan confirmed the news with the following tweet: Post-show, Drake shared a series of samples for his first Jordan project, featuring Air Jordan Xs and XIIs, all tagged with his OVO branding and supposedly named the “OVO Stingrays” (See below.) There’s no word yet on when the Drake x Jordans are set to drop, but the retro designs are a clean, simple jumping off point for Drizzy’s foray into Jordan designs. Will they outsell whatever Kanye comes up with for adidas? The stage is set for a showdown.
