In 2008, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe debuted his talent as a sculpture artist, unveiling his cast bronze sculptures at his exhibition at Rogan Botique in Bowery. It seem that he has continued where his first sculptures left off, recently collaborating with Belgian label Maison Martin Margiela on an interesting piece of accessory that aligns well with Martin Margiela’s obscure ‘found art’ approach to design.
The piece is part accessory, part object d’art, and comes in the shape of a mini metal cassette tape equipped with an unraveled tape that serves as a chain. Limited to only 199 pieces, these cassette tape accessories will be available at Margiela boutiques as well as at selected retailers. Take a look at the piece below.
