Nike Kobe Bryant Pre-All Star Event
This past Sunday, Nike hosted a special event at The Vault at the Staples Center to showcase the much talked about LA City Series pack from Nike Basketball and the Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant. As a Southern California native, I’ve been very eagerly awaiting this pack and it was well worth the wait. Nike graphic designer, Erick Goto, – who is also a SoCal native – took some cues from particular sections of Los Angeles and Orange County to put something together that serve the regions justice.
Special colors and themes such as the vivid orange utilized on the Kobe VI was chosen to represent an Orange County sunset and a special “Drenched Blue” color was also used on the Kobe VI as a nod to the Los Angeles Dodgers and East LA. And speaking of the Kobe VI, arguably the highlight of the pack has to be the 3D, which fittingly represents Hollywood. In addition to the Kobe VIs, the Hyperfuse Low also makes its way into the pack with the same specially designed elements made to represent the regions of Southern California.
The Pre-All Star event also saw another special treat in the form of a special interview with Robert Rodriguez, who directed “The Black Mamba” film featuring Danny Trejo, Bruce Willis, Kanye West and the man himself, Kobe Bryant. Rodriguez was on hand to discuss the making of the film, which sees Kobe having to play against some crazed basketball playing zombies in order to stay alive. Stay tuned for more information about the release of the film.
