Soulland Spring/Summer 2011 Collection
At last week’s Copenhagen Fashion Week, Soulland presented its spring/summer 2011 collection. The collection is designed
by Soulland designer Silas Adler and is inspired by the Leonard Cohen poem “The Suit”.
Silas Adler about the show in Copenhagen and the collection: “I’ve been very excited to show the entire spring/summer 2011 collection to an audience. We showed parts of the collection in Paris this June and buyers have been able to see it at tradeshows around the world, but getting the opportunity to show the entire collection the way I believe it should be experienced, is always very special to me”.
“For me the poem by Cohen is about the thin line between the well-established, mature and controlled versus the need to break free. For the show in Copenhagen we wanted to create an atmosphere to resemble this mood. The show started with a recitation of “The Suit” and ended with Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”.”
“The poem has inspired more mature items in the collections such as trenchcoats and blazers. Specifically, the poem inspired me to make a suit, which has been a very interesting journey into a new design field. For me the suit is the ultimate item within menswear, because it communicates a strong symbolic power and authority and on the production side it requires a very high level of craftsmanship”.
