October 2011 sees the opening of the first ever Vanishing Elephant stand-alone store, situated in Melbourne’s burgeoning QV district, a landmark occasion for the popular menswear label.
For the first time, designers Huw Bennett, Felix Chan and Arran Russell present their own vision of the Vanishing Elephant world to their customer. The store space will house predominantly Vanishing Elephant apparel and footwear collections, with the addition of exclusive products to the store; suiting, ties, coloured poplins, oxford shirts and bags. This will be complimented with small additions of labels such as accessories from Makr Carry Goods, Edwin denim and Vans footwear. Across one open space, the store mixes multiple wooden fixtures with contrasting elements seen in metal railings and rubber pendant feature lights. Floorboards have been reclaimed from 1920’s railway flooring and powder coated metal racks sit on spotted gum bases. Further custom joinery appears throughout – at point of sale, stalls and a-frames – courtesy of Kyran Starcevich of Edward St Brunswick Makery. A striking wood and glass exterior leads into the airy street level space, housing unique handmade mannequins by Sydney artist Alex Greene, with the overall fit-out devised by Foolscap Studio, Melbourne.
Vanishing Elephant’s reputation for delivering ranges that are at once classic yet uniquely exciting has translated into an enticing store that welcomes shoppers with a thoroughly stimulating design.
