GANT has opened its first West Coast retail location in Venice  at 1308 Abbot Kinney Blvd. The space is 1,700 square feet and was designed as a GANT Rugger neighbor shop with a fresh, more modern aesthetic while still maintaining the GANT signature vintage feel. The shop includes large skylights, natural wood and a soothing color palate to create a light and airy feel. The walls are a mix of white subway tiles and showcase a mid-century Danish modern Cado wall system, designed by Poul Cadovius. To keep the atmosphere clean and crisp, a checkerboard pattern with the brand’s historical diamond “G” icon is painted on a repurposed hard wood floor sourced from an old school gymnasium. Local Venice Beach craftsman, Eric Gustafson, created several modern fixtures for the shop made from brass, wood, and inlaid tile. Additional fixtures include several 1950’s teak pieces and other mid century elements. Heading west was a natural move for the historic brand as stated by David Arbuthnot, CEO of GANT USA, “Los Angeles is a top market for GANT. It was natural for us to expand to the west coast and become part of the Venice Beach community. We are excited to bring our American East Coast heritage to the beach.” Both GANT Rugger and GANT by Michael Bastain men’s and women’s collections are carried at the Venice location. Tailoring services and cold beer are also available. Christopher Bastin, newly appointed Creative Director of GANT, will be in LA for the grand opening event in early August.
