Held steady by immaculate tailoring shown throughout, Jil Sander’s Spring 2013 Menswear collection was rather a versatile turnout, covering colour and shade, varieties in texture, and solid tonal formal wear juxtaposed against loud constructivist printed tees and cardigans. There was an unquestionable formality to the long, lean, almost Edwardian proportions of the jackets and coats, many of them double-breasted, some of them sleeveless and worn over white poplin shirts. Knee length shorts also made an appearance – as is the order of the season – and we haven’t seen them done better than Sander yet. Overall a confident and convincing homecoming for the designer.
