About Junya Watanabe
Born in 1961, Junya Watanabe studied fashion at the prestigious Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, where he went directly to Comme des Garcons as a pattern maker in 1984. He quickly rose through the ranks to Comme des Garcons before being named head designer of the brands knitwear line, and then as the man behind the, at the time, new Homme line.
Junya Watanabe launched his own brand within Comme des Garcons simply entitled ‘Junya Watanabe Comme Des Garçons’ in 1993 and immediately showed at Paris Fashion Week with astounding success.
Junya Watanabe is known for his interest in working with iconic brands to better innovate his own collection and utilise the best possible resources, and has through this philosophy created ongoing collaborative collections with the likes of Converse, Levis, Nike, New Balance, The North Face, Carhartt, amongst numerous others.
