Opening on July 9, MOCA gallery will have some of Andy Warhol’s most iconic and recognizable works on display. With Campbell’s Soup Cans the subject, perhaps these are what projected Warhol to superstar status and these works will be showcased for the first time at the Los Angeles museum and is a celebration of the original exhibition at Fetus Gallery, his first solo showing all the way back in 1962.

What is interesting about this collection of 32 works is that Irving Blum, the man who backed Warhol his first show gave each piece a price tag of $100 each. Although prior to selling the collection he requested all buyers to cancel the transactions so he could keep them in his personal collection, where they stayed until 1996 when they were acquired by the MoMA.

Thanks to Arrested Motion for the info.

Dom Pérignon pays tribute to one of the most illustrious artists of the 20th century, Andy Warhol, with the help of the Design Laboratory at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design to create a exclusive collection of three reinterpreted bottles. A unique set of three bottles, red, blue and yellow, paying homage to the Warhol’s adventures in colour. The box packaging for the bottles is also very eye catching using very bold colors. Don’t expect to see these bottles popping at any of your parties soon, but these bottles of Vintage 2000 champagne will make for more than a great gift.

Incase has announced their coming release of a collection which features some of Andy Warhol’s most loved artwork, which they have applied to products for iPhone, iPad and MacBook. The collection will feature Warhol’s famous banana and camouflage prints as well as a few other famous works.

Incase describe the reason for re-working Warhol’s works through the following statement “As a cutting-edge visual artist, Andy Warhol fully embraced technology and saw it as the future of contemporary culture and the arts. It is only fitting that Incase fuse his artwork with our technology driven designs.”

The full collection will be unveiled on the 5th April.

Like the title suggests, this collection of works from Andy Warhol are from the last 10 years in which he created works. Also, before you ask, I am aware “The Last Decade” opened last fall at Brooklyn Museum and that we have already featured it on SLAMXHYPE, but when I saw these new images I could not resist posting. Consisting of 50 large scale works, the diversity of the artists work could not be anymore explicit with a large variation of subjects. In addition there is also some rare collaborations created with friends such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, and Keith Haring that cap off a great exhibition.

To celebrate the current Andy Warhol “Motion Pictures” exhibition at MOMA in New York, the world famous museum has created a fun website that allows fans to produce their own Warhol style screen test.

The “Motion Pictures” exhibition focuses on Warhol’s cinematic portraits and non-narrative, silent, and black-and-white films from the mid-1960s. In particular his Screen Tests which revel in his lifelong fascination with the cult of celebrity. The Screen Tests website builds on the success of social media sites like ChatRoulette to allow anyone to create their own screen test film on the great artist’s iconic style.

Since the rise of social media art critics and commentators have mused just how much Warhol would have loved the technology and the opportunity it provides ever member of society to have their “15 minutes of fame”. It would be fascinating to see how he would have exploited the popular technology for his artistic ends, but this site offers something of a fitting tribute.

Visit the site here to create your own screentest and take a look at those submitted by others.

On January 20, MoMA’s PopRally will be hosting an event with artist Conrad Ventur, including a viewing of the exhibition and the opportunity for visitors to record their own screen tests. Let us know if you are planning to attend below.

Entitled ‘Motion Pictures’, the exhibition consists of portraits, non-narrative, silent and black and white film all dating back to the artists beginning in the 1960’s.

Andy Warhol: Motion Pictures focuses on the artist’s cinematic portraits and non-narrative, silent, and black-and-white films from the mid-1960s. Warhol’s Screen Tests reveal his lifelong fascination with the cult of celebrity, comprising a visual almanac of the 1960s downtown avant-garde scene. Included in the exhibition are such Warhol “Superstars” as Edie Sedgwick, Nico, and Baby Jane Holzer; poet Allen Ginsberg; musician Lou Reed; actor Dennis Hopper; author Susan Sontag; and collector Ethel Scull, among others. Other early films included in the exhibition are Eat (1963) and Kiss (1963–64). Twelve Screen Tests in this exhibition are projected on the gallery walls at large scale and within frames, some measuring seven feet high and nearly nine feet wide, while Kiss is shown at the rear of the gallery in a 50-seat movie theater created for the exhibition. Warhol’s film Empire (1964) will be shown in this theater every other Friday starting January 7, for the duration of the exhibition. Sleep (1963), in its entirety, will be shown in this theater on Wednesday, February 2, and Wednesday, March 2.

This exhibition is organized in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh. It was first conceived at The Museum of Modern Art, by Mary Lea Bandy, then Chief Curator, Department of Film and Media, and exhibited in 2003 as Andy Warhol: Screen Tests. With the addition of Warhol’s silent films, the show debuted as Andy Warhol: Motion Pictures at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, in 2004. Over the past five years Klaus Biesenbach has organized the tour of the exhibition to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Miami, Moscow, and Prague.

Here is a close look at the collection of works from the highly anticipated Andy Warhol “Camouflage” Exhibition. An artist and series of silkscreens that need no introduction, the opening of this exhibition was well received with some unseen test proofs also part of the exhibition. Created by taking photographs of camouflage fabric, cutting the patterns into layers and then screening them onto canvases, the “Camouflage” exhibition is on view until February 5.

Along with the upcoming exhibition from Erik Parker, Honor Fraser will also showcase Andy Warhol: Camouflage, an exhibition that includes silkscreens on canvas, unique trial proofs on board, and screenprints. This marks the first comprehensive west coast exhibition, in over ten years, of Warhol’s late series, the Camouflage works. The exhibition will run from October 30, 2010 – February 5, 2011 and will be accompanied by an exhibition catalogue with an essay by Vincent Fremont. Please find excerpts from his essay below.

While Andy Warhol was still alive, I can only remember on one occasion that a Camouflage painting of his was exhibited. It was a 72 x 72-inch fluorescent, hot-pink, and yellow version that was included in a group show in 1986 at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York City.

The Camouflage paintings were not shown publicly until six years after Andy’s death. In September of 1993, with the cooperation of the Andy Warhol Foundation, an exhibition entitled Andy Warhol Abstrakt opened at the Kuntshalle in Basel, Switzerland. For the first time ever, large Camouflage paintings measuring from 50 x 198-inches to 116 x 420-inches were presented in a groundbreaking and intriguing survey of the work resulting from Andy’s interpretation and experimentation with abstract painting.

The Camouflage paintings were a personal vision of Andy’s. No gallery had commissioned him to create these paintings for an exhibition. It all started in 1986 when Andy asked his art assistant, Jay Shriver (who was also an artist) what he was working on. Andy had agreed to let Jay work four days a week as long as Jay created artwork in his own studio on his day off. Jay told Andy that he was making small abstract paintings by pushing paint through the mesh of a piece of military camouflage cloth. Andy immediately realized making paintings of the actual camouflage shapes and patterns would be a great idea. He sent Jay off to the local Army/Navy store on Fifth Avenue near Union Square to buy some camouflage fabric. When Jay returned they photographed the cloth and the project began. Andy had the mesh pattern removed from the pictures of the camouflage cloth so just the shapes remained. Andy had a good experience creating this series of Camouflage paintings; from the very large-scale to the very small-scale versions measuring only 9 x 9-inches. He was so pleased with the results of the paintings he decided to publish his own limited edition of Camouflage prints.

Italian brand Sisley and Glenn O’Brien have teamed up to raise money for the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and commemorate the museums 15th anniversary. Curated by O’Brien, 17 prominent contemporary artists, including Nate Lowman, Dan Colen, Kenny Scharf and Rita Achermann, were specially commissioned to customize 18 Sisley motorcycle jackets, which will be auctioned at Christie’s on 8th November.

The Sisley Art Project will be unveiled at Palazzo Bovara on September 22nd to coincide with Milan Fashion Week, and will be transported to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh in October.
