As reported by TechCrunch, the new Apple iPad 3 has plenty of innovations to look forward to. With new specifications stating that the device will feature a quad-core CPU (as opposed to the dual-core A5 found in iPad 2), a high-def screen and support for 4G LTE. Apple and its fans are no strangers to rumors and the latest one is that this year they will be opening mini-stores inside Target. The source reports that there would be a store-within-a-store in participating Target locations. This would be similar to the Apple stations inside Best Buy. The program would start with 25 larger Target stores in areas that can’t support a stand alone store. They currently sell Apple but this move would further bring consumers into the Apple experience through different fixtures and merchandising.

With recognition that is saved only for those who have made a significant impact to their field, in this case “services to design and enterprise”, Ive is said to be  ”both humbled and sincerely grateful” for the award. In what could result in some of the biggest tech advances in sometime, Apple have filed for patents which will see it’s devices go weeks on end without charging, and no longer require bulky batteries. The two patents, “Fuel Cell System to Power a Portable Computing Device” and “Fuel Cell System Coupled to a Portable Computing Device” will essentially see your iPhone or iPad run similarly to a NASA satellite, this is the same technology discussed in creating cleaner cars.

A hydrogen fuel cell converts hydrogen and oxygen into water and electrical energy.

Apple even made this bold statement within its filings, “Our country’s continuing reliance on fossil fuels has forced our government to maintain complicated political and military relationships with unstable governments in the Middle East, and has also exposed our coastlines and our citizens to the associated hazards of offshore drilling”

The recently opened Apple store in Grand Central Terminal is now another reason to visit the historic terminal in Manhattan. Opening a few days ago to thousands of commuters and Apple fans the first few visitors received shirts that read “Apple Store Grand Central.” It is one of the biggest Apple stores at a record 23,000 square feet with two Genius Bar’s and antique Chandelier’s hanging overhead. This store is Apple’s 5th store in NYC and looks to be their most beautiful to date.

Have we reached an end of an era. Wednesday saw Steve Jobs co-founder and two-time CEO of Apple, offer his resignation to the company’s board. After some time of enduring serious health issues and taking extended medical leave earlier in the year, the announcement is probably not a surprise, but is without doubt a massive move for the company.

“I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it,” Jobs wrote. “I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.”

Apple stock was down 7% in after-hours trading, but rallied and was down just 5% by 7:50pm ET — suggesting Apple’s succession plan had calmed the markets.
