Acting as curator, for our second offering, Arkitip has chosen artist Parra for the series of artistically driven products for Pendleton Woolen Mills. Having worked with a host of brands and entities over the years, Parra has provided his distinctive critique to the otherwise traditional and design emphasised Pendleton Woolen Mills. The Amsterdam based artist explains ”being a fan of the issues and artists that Arkitip published before every collaborating with them, I could always appreciate how they match artists to top quality products. Now after working with them for many years in various ways, this Pendleton blanket is another perfect example.”

To celebrate the launch of the 58th issue of Arkitip, the LA based magazine worked together with paint purveyors The Comex Group for a small installation at Project Space. Featuring the work of artists Aaron De La Cruz, Anthony Lister, and Skypager the works further emphasis the ‘COLOR’ theme which was central in the magazine. While the installation is open until September 1, you can get your hands on the magazine from the Arkitip online shop now.

Arkitip Issue No. 0058 Launch Event is a post from: SLAMXHYPE

Arkitip have taken a slightly different path with their 58th issue. Rather than working with a particular artist, they have worked with the theme of COLOR and with collaborators Comex. Arkitip have selected a group of artists to create whatever they want using Comex supplied paint. The result a special issue of the magazine issued as an edition of just 1500, each hand numbered – and the added gift of a cobranded Comex + Arkitip paint brush.

Arkitip have added a series of videos documenting the process also through their ‘Chronicles’ which includes videos with the likes of Aaron De La Cruz, Anthony Lister and Skypager.

The outcome is a fantastic blanket, which is a core product from Pendleton Woolen Mills who have a rich history dating back more than a 100 years, and with Leon’s rendition one that reflects the artists style it doesn’t get much better has been designing and manufacturing the world’s best woolen blankets.

“Having grown up a skateboarder in the South, and moving to California in 1993, It has always been a very important image to me both in respect to my personal history and as an exemplification of how I strive to communicate ideas both simply and poetically. I have worked with Arkitip on various projects and exhibitions throughout the years and when the opportunity came to design a blanket with Pendleton, I knew that this would be the appropriate image”.

Korean-born Rostarr is a multidisciplinary artist, painter and filmmaker living and working in Brooklyn and the latest name to work with Incase for the Curated by Arkitip initiative. For the past 15 years, he’s blurred the lines between graphic design and art and is best known for his colorful abstract polymorphic paintings, totemic iconographic characters and black and white calligraphic drawings.

The Rostarr series for Curated by Arkitip includes a Snap Case for iPhone 4, Book Jacket for iPad and 15” Sleeve for MacBook Pro and will be available on May 25.

Arkitip introduced today their next exhibition entitled “Melt Down” that will feature a large installation of a life-size wooden army tank driving through a gold-leafed wall surrounded by falling telephone poles by artist Andrew Schoultz as well as large painting and sculptures. The show is set to open on December 9, 2010 at Project Space and will be running through January 9, 2011.

Having applied his unique technique here is an edition of Michael Leon’s renowned Skull creation that is exclusive for Arkitip. Handmade acrylic paint balls applied with air gun to individually hand-poured solid gypsum with no piece identical this makes for a compelling piece.
