Sneaker collaborations rarely see the light of fashion runway day unless you happen to be Kanye West and the brand in question is Louis Vuitton. But even then, only one of the styles West created for the iconic brand debuted. For Converse and their continued collaboration with famed Italian fashion house Missoni, it was two.

The special edition Auckland Racer, second in the Converse x Missoni fashion saga, and the Pro Leather was featured in the Missoni Men’s AW 2012 runway during their presentation in Milan, elevating their partnership in the fashion game.

How appropriate to launch the Auckland Racer down the Missoni RUNway this year… Originally designed for running in the 1970s, the Auckland Racer carries a lineage that many would not know or even associate with a company like Converse. It was tied to the early pioneers of the jogging movement, and became Converse’s first real standard running shoe. 64 years ago at the 1948 London Olympics, Ottavio “Tai” Missoni, an international athlete and track suit maker – his “Venjulia” tracksuits were adopted by the Italian track team that year – met Rosita Jelmini at Wembley, where he qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdle race. They married in April 1953, and five years later showed their first Missoni collection. The rest is fashion history.

Darker and more muted than the spring Converse x Missoni Auckland Racer, the AW version features a color palette of tonal greys, black, burgundy, and touch of burnish copper lame for that added pop. A kaleidoscopic mix of colors with variations of textures achieved through black Missoni space-dyed wool not only subtly highlights Missoni’s use of different textures often found in their collections, but also their trademark zigzags, geometrical shapes, and stripes.

The Converse Pro Leather, the shoe that changed basketball is now changing the runway. Featuring Missoni Intarsia wool knit panels on the heel strip and the tongue, the shoe in a dark burgundy Horween Chromexcel leather — trust me, it’s not black — with its star chevron logo, is the shoe to look forward to this fall as it goes with everything.

Friday, December 9, Converse announced the continuation of its successful collaboration with sneaker retailer Undefeated — now for the first time in China. Globally recognized for its sport and military inspired identity and attitude, Undefeated worked closely with Converse to create the limited-edition Undefeated for Converse First String Holiday 2011 collection that includes fresh takes on the iconic Star Player and One Star Academy shoes.

To commemorate the launch, a special evening was hosted by Converse at JUICE Shanghai, the exclusive distributor for the collection in China on Friday, December 9 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. To mark the first-ever launch of the collection to the Chinese market, Converse welcomed Undefeated founders James Bond and Eddie Cruz, along with Undefeated designer KB Lee. Over the course of three hours, over 150 guests arrived to preview the collection and meet the Undefeated crew along with Converse Director of First String/Premium products Ian Ginoza and the founders of JUICE Edison Chen and Kevin Poon.

Guests included local fashion designers Lu Kun, Chair Yuan; Chinese top models Paris Gao, Ann Wangand Ming Fei Ni; as well as famous Japanese photographer Yasumasa Yonehara. Internationally renowned music producer and DJ, Yusuke Hama aka Hamacide provided music.

Tenue de Nîmes launches a limited collection of hand-dyed indigo Chuck Taylor All Stars high top sneakers during its 3 Year Anniversary on November 25th 2011.

The Chuck Taylor All Star serves as a perfect muse for Tenue de Nîmes. With deep roots in style and culture, both the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe and indigo denim have led somewhat parallel lives. The Chuck Taylor All Star shoe and a pair of jeans have long been a staple of youth culture and music and have served as a symbol of independence for decades. Fittingly, Tenue de Nîmes asked the legendary denim experts, the Manabe family from Okoyama in Japan, owners of the Momotaro brand and Rampuya dyeing factory, if they would be able to indigo-dye a limited amount of 50 pairs of high tops. The decision to create a new version of the indigo dyed Chuck Taylor All Star was made after the world turned upside down when the the Oxford version of the Indigo-dyed Chuck Taylor was released in July of this year.

The Momotaro-clan provided Tenue de Nîmes with 50 pairs of hand-numbered high-top shoes, dyed in natural indigo. Because of the irregular composition of natural indigo, the shoes all have a different signature. Each shoe is unique thanks to the traditional craft of hand-dyeing and the use of natural ingredients throughout the process. The shoes are sold in a numbered Ramupya natural cotton bag and are exclusively sold at Tenue de Nîmes in Amsterdam for €89,90. The shoe will be available to the public as from November 26th at 10.00 AM local Amsterdam time.
