Denim Demon have developed this impressive backpack by working together with the legendary tannery Kero, located in the village Sattajärvi far north of Sweden. Made in naturally tanned hide this supplements the 15.5 oz un-signed denim and with reindeer horn buttons with great distinction.

Swedish brand Denim Demon has taken a rather unexpected step into the spirits market. The selvage brand is launching their own Schnapps which have been named with inspiration from their two most popular jean styles, the Aajja and Aahka (meaning Grandfather and Grandmother.) The first brew called Aajjavit is flavored with cumin, fennel and oaky, barrel-aged whiskey. The second brew Aahkavit, is a lighter and more crisp mix, infused with cumin and dill. The snappes is intended to be drank straight-up and chilled.

Denim Demon jeans and Kero got in touch the first time during Spring 2010, and quickly got into a discussion about a possible way of working together. The Kero Beak Boot is a true classic. Neither of the brands were interested in making just another collaboration, but really wanted to get into the true stories of both brands to be able to offer something unique and interesting. A small capsule collection was put together, a collection that is now ready to be offered to selected retailers. All pieces are handmade in Sattajärvi, Pajala. Global launch is set to August 15-2011.

The collection consists of the classic Beak Boot, Backpack and Camera Pack as shown.

Proving that craft and quality is in their blood, the denim conoissours that are Denim Demon have taken a bold move to create their own drink. The Denim Demon Aquavit has been distilled in collaboration with Buustamon, Sweden’s smallest, legal mountain distillery, and also a 26-bed hotel. Just 72 bottles of each size are available.

The most eye-catching piece of the show was the forthcoming collaboration between DC and Sixpack. Sixpack continue to impress us each season and this time round they’ve stepped up their game even further with jackets, button down shirts and knitwear alongside their usual (or rather unusual) graphic tees and sweats. The DC collaboration includes a lined hooded leather jacket, a reversible satin jacket and mid-top and low-top shoes. It’s difficult to describe the theme of the pack, but it’s based around a kind of retro-futuristic sci-fi soft porn; smouldering airbrushed women pout from the lining of the jackets, while the other side of the reversible jacket and the panelling on the shoes feature geometric patterns reminiscent of the movie Tron. To top it all off, the multicoloured zipper on the leather jacket matches the incredible lining graphics.

Another standout of the show was the Penfield A/W ‘09 collection. The brand are building on their reputation for high quality outerwear by reinterpreting their classic pieces with new and interesting fabric applications. Highlights this time round included down jackets that mix hickory with corduroy and herringbone with leather, while Navajo fabrics have been used to spice up bags, jackets, hoodies and shirts. The high-end Black Bear collection features classic raincoats and hunting jackets with traditional outers that conceal techincal linings replete with taped seams to keep you dry.

Also representing traditional rugged outerwear was the American brand Filson. These guys have been producing quality outdoor clothing since they began by supplying the miners of the Yukon Gold Rush over 100 years ago. They’re still going strong with incredibly detailed, heavyweight hunting jackets and traditionally-styled bags in leather and waxed cotton.

Swedish brand Denim Demon are bridging the gap between tradition and a more up-to-date style with a range of jeans, shirts, jackets and knitwear that give a nod to their Scandinavian heritage while appealing to a modern audience. Shawl-collar knits featured reindeer motifs, while the jeans and jackets use traditional Swedish fabrics for their lining and details. Nudie were also getting in on the act with brightly coloured traditional knitwear patterns.

In a time of economic uncertainty and worries about the clothing industry, it was heartening to see several younger brands growing and expanding their ranges. CTRL have branched out further into outerwear, with heavy leather down jackets and intricate coloured and patterned hoodies and jackets.

Meanwhile Wemoto, the German kings of the graphic t-shirt, have stepped up their cut ‘n’ sew game and were previewing a wider range for A/W ‘09 including jackets, shirts, hoodies and knitwear. The witty, tongue-in-cheek, slightly unhinged but beautifully executed graphics were still there though, as were the brilliant booth decorations…
