We had a 3 weeks timeline to design and provide strategic PR for Robe Di Kappa’s 2011 SS’ show during Beijing fashion week.

Robe Di Kapp is Kappa’s high-end sports fashion label. Designed by St Martin’s Design Lab back in London, this season is an effortless expression of sports and fashion.

I have not yet own anything from Kappa, recently my friend Kevin Tallon from St Martin’s Design Laboratory in London just finished a new season for Robe di Kappa (RDK).

Uncompromisingly bright orange, London pigeon grey, neo yellow and Aubergine purple are usual for design specifically China market. The silhouettes reminded me a lot of Stella McCartney and Yoji Yamamoto, but it is still a pleasant surprise to see the daringly creative outcome from Kappa to its own China market.

RDK is a high end performance lifestyle apparel line created by a small off-shoot Kappa team.

Case Study/Unholy Matrimony Store Opening with Barnacle

Celebrating the birth of a new project and joint venture, Amir Gharavi of Anastasia and Brett Westfall of Unholy Matrimony, will be presenting “Case Study Unholy Matrimony”. A new conceptual space aimed at destroying any and all boundaries that limit creationism within conceptual art, design and lifestyle. Aside from presenting monthly exhibitions and events , the space will house all collections and works by Unholy Matrimony and Brett Westfall. As well as present collections and works by Undercover, Kris Van Asche, Sigi, Maison Martin Margiela, Peachoo & Krejberg, Darcy Miro, Hussein Chalayan, Sonia Boyajian, Junya Watanabe, Manish Arora and other greats.

The celebration of the space will open with the continued exhibition of “Voice Of Nature” the traveling collaborative art installation by Brett Westfall, and Joel Knoernschild of men’s conceptual design label KZO. Which will also include a live musical performance by “Barnacle”.

KZO got a great writeup by Aloha Rag’s owner, Mr. Tatsugo Yoda in New York Times T-Style Magazine. He has two amazing stores in Honolulu and New York City. Our Muir flannel was listed as one of his favorites.

Saw Bon Iver play a sold out concert at the Wiltern last Friday. They were amazing.

Collections to Date: 6thSynopsis behind the concept of the new S/S 2010 collection:
For S/S 2010, I read the Neil Young biography “Shakey,” written by Jimmy McDonough that I could not put down and was listening to a lot of his music at the time, specifically the “Rust Never Sleeps Live Album” from 1979. It’s really garage, heavy and grungy sounding, influencing many symbolic musicians down the road. Neil’s extremely outspoken and independent, driving his 1948 black Pontiac hearse named “Mort” down from Canada. He lived in Echo Park, Los Angeles for a while, so I identified with his relationship to the west coast.
This season’s collection is entitled “Into the Blue, Out of the Black,” based on a fictional US band tour that I created. The clothes revolve around being comfortable and fabrics that feel special.
Perfect model for your collection this season?
Neil Young has an extremely intense stare and eyes, so we wanted the model to have this type of characteristic and sophistication.
Key looks/colors we should expect to see in S/S 2010?
Organic cotton jersey tank tops and v-necks, native American yarn-dyed native American pattern fleece blazer with matching shorts, 3/4 sleeve check-pattern woven shirts, “freedom-sleeve” indigo fleece cardigan, and lightweight chambray “easy pants,” all made in Japan.
As a label, which creative phase do you find most gratifying?
I think that like making a feature film, there are many departments involved to realize the overall vision. Without one of these parts, the film is sacrificed. So with this in mind, I find that fulfilling the final vision each collection to the fullest is the most gratifying.
Are there plans to show your future collections in New York?
Possibly IF I can present the brand correctly.
Bonus Question: Who would be the ideal individual (living or not) that you would love to see wearing your new collection?
Stanley Kubrick or obviously Neil Young.

Diane Pernet has built a website more influential than most, she comes from a career of credibility and has continued to grow this respect throughout her time on the internet. Her influence will now move towards a real world experience, in the form of a film Festival and competition. The short film contest will take place September 27th – 29th with the winner announced at the Pompidou in Paris on October 3rd. The Showings will include an amazing line up of fashion personalities films too.. from Nick Knight, to Chloe Sevigny, Undercover to Thom Browne, and with special guest Rick Owens.
