Tokyo based street culture icon, Fraser Cooke gives us an insight into what he’s asking Santa for this year. Read on…

Keith Richards “life” Book. Excellent book by Keith Richards and his long time friend James Fox, which goes into extreme detail about his long and colorful life and of course much dirt behind the scenes with the Rolling Stones. I’ve read this one already but a great present for a friend. Excellent book and testament to one man’s love of music above all else.

Audi RS6. I basically have a great fondness for the simple understated great design of Audi cars and this one is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing. A beast of a car without the flashiness.

David Bowie Station to Station special edition book by Genesis publishing UK. I saw this book at Corso Como in Tokyo earlier this year and it stuck in my mind. So recently I ordered it and indeed it will be a Christmas present to myself. Absolutely beautifully crafted made to order book featuring some incredible images and stories from Bowie’s mid 70’s tours throughout Russia Japan and the US.

Rolex Explorer 2 early edition. Not much to say about this other than it has a really striking design compared to many other Rolex models, which retail some kind of uniformity. Quite chunky for its time and although many like the vintage Daytona’s, which are also beautiful, there’s something really special about these watches.

5Phonon Blackstar edition device. Phonon is a Japanese company making devices that “clean’ the sound from your audio system this generating a more even and perfect sound. Alex From Tokyo put me onto this and this is in fact his special version. All I need now is a better set to speakers to make it worthwhile.

SLAMXHYPE blogger Fraser Cooke has compiled another interesting read for Interview Magazine with this coveting interview with founder and designer of A.P.C., Jean Touitou.

FRASER COOKE: So, hi Jean. Let’s go all the way back to the beginning. How did you find yourself in this business, and what was going on in your life preceding that?

JEAN TOUITOU: I became involved strictly by accident. I just wanted to join a group of people doing things differently from what I could see around me in Paris back then. So by chance I bump into some people who were working at Kenzo, and that was in ’77 or ’78. There was a very raw unsophisticated energy there in those days and whatever those people would have done, I would have joined them. It was that simple.

COOKE: So what was it that was so different about this crew that drew you to them at the time?

TOUITOU: Well, let’s say I was a bit disappointed because revolution didn’t happen, like from ’68 to ’76, and I was more than annoyed by that. I finished my studies and had wanted to be a history teacher, because I didn’t want to be involved with money. I had this complex of all my friends being sons of professors or architects and my father was a merchant. I thought working for money was somehow filthy or something.

Creating the kind of hysteria we associate with CLOT and Juice, the Hong Kong store has re-opened to a huge reception. In addition, marking the 6th anniversary with an event of mass proportions as guests flew in from all over the world. Take a closer look below.

Ground Floor Opening

The interior of the shop simulates a warehouse with the use of raw materials such as steel, wood and concrete. Black, white and brown serve as the main color tones and the JUICE neon light decoration at the back of the store creates a nice, eye catching contrast.

Honorable guests from Japan

CLOT invited Hiroshi Fujiwara and Kazuki Kuraishi from fragment design and NIKE Global Energy Marketing Director, Fraser Cooke, to be their guests of honor at the JUICE HK opening. Hiroshi and Fraser are no strangers to JUICE’s opening as they were also CLOT’s honorable guests at the JUICE SH opening in late 2009.

The Kitsune Music Night by Mr K, Mr A, Mr EDC and Mr KP at ROXIE

At CLOT’s 6th Anniversary Party at the ROXIE, CLOT invited DJ Kitsune from Paris to deejay for the night. Together with Andre from Paris, these fashion icons from the west definitely rocked the night. This was the first time for these icons appearing in Hong Kong after their announcement of their new shop opening in Paris.

Ground Floor Opening

The interior of the shop simulates a warehouse with the use of raw materials such as steel, wood and concrete. Black, white and brown serve as the main color tones and the JUICE neon light decoration at the back of the store creates a nice, eye catching contrast.

Interview Magazine recently launched its debut iPad Issue. We were lucky enough to be invited to the launch last week and saw the magazine presented on the iPad in all its glory. For those of you who have been quick enough to get your hands on Apple’s newest toy, you’ll know just how amazing the experience is, the perfect tool for browsing and reading. Interview Magazine left no point unturned, considering the entire experience, and its well worth getting your hands on their app. The Issue features an interview with Hiroshi Fujiwara, interviewed by SLAMXHYPE Blogger Fraser Cooke, and photographed by fellow blogger Keiichi Nitta. Read the extracted interview here.

After a short time out, we have been able to regroup and take some time to focus on the angle we want to deliver our BLOGS. With a refined focus we have decided to invite a really select list of names that reflect the concept of SLAMXHYPE and THE NEW ORDER in a strong way. I think the group of names portrays the diversity and edge we are trying to build, from the more established names like Fraser Cooke, Tommy Guerrero, Erik Brunetti and Mark Dean Veca to up and coming talents like Keiichi Nitta, Errolson Hugh, Yosuke Aizawa of White Mountaineering. Take time to check out what is going on in this very influencial peoples daily lives.

I must admit, I really like the layout and design of Think Silly’s website, they have made some changes to their blog or chronicles though, making it easier to navigate and to load, and even added some new bloggers, including Fraser Cooke, Ben Drury, Shinsuke Takizawa (from Neighborhood), SILLY THING Visuals team, WAD Magazine, Takagi Kan, Eric Elms, colette, suitman Young Kim and Verbal (from M-Flo).
