Danish fashion designer Henrik Vibskov has developed a new unisex fragrance series named TYPE. The series consists of three scents that reflect a specific moment in time in three different cities: Berlin, Copenhagen and Damascus. Playing with the simplicity of the cities’ initial letters, the Eaux de Toilette called TYPE B, TYPE C and TYPE D not only represent three very unique and different fragrances, but above all reflect some of the very characteristics of each of the represented cities.

TYPE B, for Berlin, captures a cold winter’s day in the former Eastern part of the city, where – even today – numerous buildings and houses are heated with coal. While the scent starts with black pepper and sulphur match, it soon ignites a soft woody heart of cedarwood, vetyver and gaiac wood, then evolving towards a cosy and welcoming musky black wood dry down (birch and coal tar), recollective of smoky and leatherish odors on the streets of Pankow.

The curators behind the Six Scents have gone out and produced some beautiful ‘digital’ collage collaborations between the most contemporary and creative. 3.1 PhillipLim (with Natalie Gracia-Cetto), Damir Doma (with Yann Vasnier ), Henrik Vibskov (with Louise Turner), House of Holland (with Stephen Nielsen), Richard Nicoll (with Rodrigo Flores-Roux) and Toga (with Alexandra Kosinski.)
All of which combine Japanese botanical sculptor, Azuma’s, original artwork with elements of the product’s package design and the designer mandated fragrance concept for each scent.

New York has always been a favorite destination and inspiration for Henrik Vibskov’s collections. This weekend saw the opening of Vibskov’s first U.S. flagship in New York’s popular Soho neighborhood,  joining the brands line up of existing stores in Oslo and Copenhagen. “We have been selling at several stores in New York but with our own boutique we have the opportunity to build our own creative universe” The interior decoration is made of oxidized golden wood which was personally built by Vibskov and his team.

The store will also be stocking brans such as Cosmic Wonder, Stine Goya, Sabrina Dehoff, Uslu Airlines, Ally Capellino, Andersen & Andersen, Anntian, Juliba (Jewelry), Kron Kron, Peter Jensen, Reality Studio, S. N. S. Herning, and Volta.

Henrik Vibskov is opening up a New York SoHo store in April 2011 – seeing the global dominance of Scandanavian brands extend even further.

For Henrik Vibskov, New York has for a long time been the favorite city to visit. Its often a source of reference for Henrik’s clothing collections, from Andy Warhol to high-brow comedic film creator Woody Allen, there’s a little bit of New York in a little bit of Vibskov.

A small cozy 850 sq ft (80m2) shop unit located on 456 Brome street, with Kate Spade, Isabel Marant and their favorite Gourmet Garage as neighbors, the frame of his first flagship multi label store out side of Scandinavia is set. Interior and decoration is made of reconstructed danish furnitures and various industrial materials, shipped over in a container from Copenhagen.

The approach of Henrik Vibskov is one to really appreciate, while he often works on a muted pallet of colors, it is the designers bohemian aesthetic which also stands out. Combining narrow trousers or shorts over tights with oversized outerwear is pivotal to the Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection with a focus on detail and fit this makes for another impressive line.

For the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, MoMu, the Fashion Museum in Antwerp and Mercedes-Benz, invited Belgian art director Frederik Heyman and 4 fashion designers with exceptional signatures and outspoke styles – Bernhard Willhelm, Peter Pilotto, Henrik Vibskov and Mikio Sakabe – to create 4 installations.

At the heart of each installation stands a Mercedes Benz Young Classics. From these cars from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, 4 cars were selected that today have an undisputed cult status: W115, S123, R107 and C126. Not only the intrinsic qualities of the cars themselves, but also the widely diverse people happy to be amongst their proud owners have shaped how we think about these vehicles. Today our memories of these cars merge with our continually changing perception of luxury, craftsmanship, and functionality, and form exquisite material for fashion designers. Fashion only exists by the grace of our perpetual reinvention of the past, our rethinking of bygone style and fashion trends and our translation of these for the women and men of today. In their designs, we asked the designers to reflect on how the Young Classics can still inspire us today and to interpret the widely varying connotations associated with these cars into a contemporary context.

For each Young Classics, photographer and artist Frederik Heyman created a unique decor and used it only once in a photographic illustration. The design of tableaux and their photographic reproduction are central to Heyman’s oeuvre. Humour and a surrealist visual vocabulary are an intrinsic part of his artistic signature. His decors are built completely by hand, in collaboration with a team of sculptors and artists. In the final results, the handcraft, the construction and consequently also quality craftsmanship are always clearly traceable. Fashion designers Bernhard Willhelm, Peter Pilotto, Henrik Vibskov and Mikio Sakabe have added their own visions to the installations with each 3 new looks.
