Judith Supine At Art Basel Miami Preview

As Art Basel Miami, the US’s biggest arts fair, grows closer we are seeing more and more previews of the artists and shows that will be on display. The latest is from Judith Supine and his psychedelic, collage based works and will be part of LA Gallery New Image Art’s show at Scope (one of the many Art Basel satellite fairs). ‘14 Artists’ at New Image Art

Nuart Preview

Nuart, one of our favorite international street art festivals, is about to kick off its 2009 installment. This year sees some of the best of Brooklyn fly to Norway, including Swoon, David Choe, Chris Stain (above), Logan Hicks, Judith Supine, Brad Downey, Leon Reid IV, Graffiti Research Lab, Ben Wolf and Skewville. Official opening night is September 10th.

Festival founder and director Martyn Reed talked to SXH about some of the reasons behind his decision to spotlight Brooklyn:

“Working with Chris Stain last year focused my attention back on the community roots of this scene (for want of a better word): Swoon, Just Seeds, Brooklyn Arts Project, Wooster Collective. This idea of community and selflessly putting work on the streets for free was really the main reason behind wanting to support and contribute to it.”

Leon Reid IV (of Darius and Downey fame) is the first artist to land in Stavanger. He will be giving a public talk tomorrow afternoon at Rogaland Kunstkolen. Judith Supine is in store for his solo show at New Image Art gallery later on this year, in the mean time he has been blessing the streets of New York City with amazing images and exceptional placement. From the sewers to central park Supine has turned flat, green hued figures into masterpieces by placing them in the most creative scenery the city has available. Judith Supine’s sometimes collage-like themes work well with the gritty New York City streets.

Judith Supine in the Sewers of Queens

Judith Supine is a master of artistic placement – this fantastic new piece is located in the Linden Brook Sewer in Queens.

As if the work isn’t impressive enough (lighting all natural, by the way), Judith had to swim through the East River in order to install it.

We are very excited to see what he brings us at Nuart in September and New Image Art in November.

Get ready! FAME Fest 2009 is coming your way. The official blog for this year’s meeting of some of the world’s best contemporary artists in the village of Grottaglie, Italy has just gone up – keep an eye out for more details.

Artists featured include Erica Il Cane, Judith Supine, David Ellis, Word To Mother, Sam3, Blu, JR, Vhils, Conor Harrington, Lucy Mclauchlan, Mark Jenkins, Dolk, Clio, Slinkachu, Dem, Will Barras, Tuono Pettinato, and Paper Resistance. Find links to more information about them here.

“As you can see, these two images show us two versions of the same wall. you might think that the chicken one is the latest version but if you double check the one on the left you’ll find out that Erica il Cane beautiful piece have been buffed.

thanks to the town council soubrettes (who apparently did not like the piece) we now have a brand new gray wall. it’s in their honour that we decided to use the same wall as the poster for 2009 edition.”

We’re going to be seeing some amazing work at FAME Fest from the artists involved, but it’s always hard to hear that a beautiful Erica il Cane piece has been buffed…

Celebrating at amazing 15 years saw the gallery put on a group exhibition, showing just why they are held in such high regard.
