Here is the first look at a new body of works highly coveted pop artist KAWS is preparing for his exhibition entitled “Down Time” exhibition at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Amongst the works is a 22-foot tall mural, the outcome of live painting that will take one week in total, while looking at the images here we will see KAWS again apply himself in his signature way at the same time finding new critiques. Honoring artist Brian Donnelly, better known as KAWS, Original Fake and Medicom Toy unveil their latest toy collaboration. This is the first time a toy has been released to honor the artist, featuring a replica of him and his most iconic design the Companion. The toy was inspired by the statue of famous Walt Disney and Mickey in Disneyland Park California and you can purchase this limited release at colette starting January 28th.

Kicking off last Friday night at Forth Worth’s Modern Art Museum, KAWS unveiled his latest show entitled Focus:KAWS. The exhibition displayed everything from colorful pieces to monotone sculptures as well as works from this year’s Armory and Honor Fraser shows. Attendees included Hiroshi Sugitomo, Ed Ruscha, Kehinde Wiley and Rosson Crow and be sure to catch KAWS during his next up in Atlanta, GA.

Following our preview, here is a greater look at the Christie’s x Takashi Murakami Tohoku-Pacific Earthquake Benefit Auction with the preview that took place last week. The combination of Christie’s (the global art auction house) and Takashi Murakami has seen a host of artists like Aya Takano, Yoshitomo Nara, Damient Hirst, KAWS, come together for a good cause. The benefit, which is expected to raise 5 million dollars with proceeds going to The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Global Giving, and International Medical Corps this will go along way to help the recovery from the disaster that hit Japan in March. Takashi Murakami provides us with his account for the situation in Tohoku “The damage which resulted from the recent earthquake was great and yet, there are other disasters occurring somewhere in the world every day. If we do not address the root causes of the chaos which arises from these disasters, both natural and man- made, then our problems will continue reoccurring and their severity will only grow worse, eating further away at the heart and mind.”

Viewing took place from October 26-28 at the Gagosian Gallery, and the pre-sale exhibition will begin on November 4. The main auction is set to take place on November 9 at Christie’s Rockefeller Plaza location beginning at 9:30 a.m., and will be ceremonially opened by actor Ken Watanabe, who will read a Japanese poem in honor of those who lost their lives.

Takashi Murakami and Kaikai Kiki Co. have teamed up with KAWS to create this impressive piece of work for a new auction from Christie’s to benefit the victims of the tragic Tohoku-Pacific earthquake in Japan earlier this year. The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Global Giving, and International Medical Corps will benefit from the proceeds that are expected to reach $5 million. In addition to Takashi Murakami other artists contributing to the auction include Zeng Fanzhi, Mark Grotjahn, Damien Hirst, Thomas Houseago, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Friedrich Kunath,Yoshitomo Nara, Gabriel Orozco, Anselm Reyle, Cindy Sherman, Aya Takano and Luc Tuymans while a preview will take place at the Gagosian Gallery on Wednesday, October 26 to Friday, October 28 at their Madison Avenue space in New York.

KAWS, and his brand Original Fake are the latest entity to reinterpret the iconic Snoopy character Peanuts. The outcome is simple but effective, with much of the structure mainatining the core aesthetic of the character which has been seen on comic strips all over the world. The addition of a well modified yellow tee, highlighted by the “JOE KAWS” slogan and the sunglasses adorning the all to familiar “XX” mark this makes for a compromising release which will surface at Original Fake and KAWSONE.com very soon.

Tokyo’s Common Gallery will play host to a new exhibition of Eric Elms work entitled ‘Wish You Were Here’ from October 20th. His character Kilroy is a central point of his new work and the exhibition will also coincide with the launch of a number of collaborative products including this tee shirt with KAWS. February 18th, 2012 will see the opening of a major multi-site exhibition of KAWS work at Atlanta’s High Museum.

“The High Museum of Art will premiere a major multi-site exhibition of work by Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly, a.k.a. KAWS on February 18, 2012, with a 22-foot-high, site-specific mural painted in the Margaretta Taylor Lobby of the High’s Wieland Pavilion, along with a 24-foot-long triptych hung in the Museum’s Robinson Atrium. In addition, a gallery installation of paintings, drawings and sculpture will feature a grid of 27 tondo paintings, each 40 inches in diameter. Visitors will be able to watch KAWS over the course of a week in early February as he creates the mural exclusively for the High.

The exhibition will also include KAWS’s monumental sculpture Companion (2010), which will be installed on the Museum’s piazza on November 18, 2011, in advance of the main exhibition opening in February.

KAWS: Down Time has been organized exclusively for the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, by the High’s Wieland Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Michael Rooks. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated exhibition catalogue and will coincide with a public program featuring KAWS and Michael Rooks in conversation at the Alliance Theatre. The program starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, as part of the High’s Conversations with Contemporary Artists lecture series.”
