AÏE magazine is an independent quarterly fashion and science magazine based in Paris. It will be distributed worldwide by KD Press and stocked in premium art and design spaces including Dover Street Market (London), Tate Modern (Lon- don), ICA (London), Colette (Paris), APC Soho (New York), MOMA (San Francisco), Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney) and Aoyama Books Center (Tokyo).

Anchored with commissioned shoots by a new generation of photographers and stylists featuring leading designers both established and new, AÏE magazine is built upon industry support and a handful of close-knit friends.
Packed with interviews, support and collaborations with fashion and science industry legends including; world renowned Zurich gallery owner Bruno Bischofsberger; shoe designer Pierre Hardy; luxury jewellery designer Belmacz, the Oscar winning French collective H5, New York based artist José Parlà, the legendary ‘It boy’ and artist Mark Gonzales and the new music sensation We Have Band from London among other influential and cultural figures.

Printed on baby blue paper (to remain as their trademark) and sized at 9 x13 inches, the 84 pages of the magazine for Issue 0 contains no advertising other than from Richardson magazine, a deliberate decision to showcase creative independence and highlight the ethos of the brand.

AÏE magazine Issue 0 launch was held at the Louis Vuitton Cultural Space on June 25th 2010 in Paris.

Kurt Cobain Biopic

We just caught news of a upcoming new biopic of Nirvana front man and Grunge icon Kurt Cobain. Talk is of oscar nominated Oren Moverman is to direct the film, and much of the material is to come from Charles R. Cross’ 2001 biography, “Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain.” We’ll keep you updated on progress of the film.

The rookie director of the Oscar-nominated drama “The Messenger” is in negotiations to rework the screenplay for Universal Pictures’ untitled Kurt Cobain project.

Oren Moverman is also set to direct the film about the late frontman of grunge group Nirvana. Screenwriter David Benioff (“Brothers”) first took on the project in 2007.

Material on Cobain’s life, music and 1994 suicide will come at least partially from Charles R. Cross’ 2001 biography, “Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain.” Universal originally purchased the life rights of both Cobain and his widow, Courtney Love, who had already optioned the film rights to the Cross book.

In 2005, writer-director Gus Van Sant made the fictional rock-and-roll drama “Last Days,” which echoed Cobain’s drug-addicted final trajectory. Benioff did first-hand research with Cobain’s old friends in Aberdeen and Seattle to inform the drafts of his Universal script.

Moverman and his “Messenger” co-writer Alessandro Camon scored Oscar nominations for their original screenplay. Woody Harrelson also earned a nomination for his supporting role as a soldier who delivers the news of comrades’ deaths to their families.

Moverman has also co-written the scripts for “Married Life,” “Jesus’ Son” and “I’m Not There.”

London’s White Chapel Gallery is hosting the new works by artist Elizabeth Peyton which is running through until 20th September 2009. The new show, titled ‘Live Forever’ pays homage to those of whom have passed before us or have created a legend type following or are a iconic figure in themselves. Portraits of those include Kurt Cobain, Pete Doherty and Jarvis Cocker. Here is a sneak look at these three portraits.

Artist Natascha Stellmach Prepares to Smoke Kurt Cobain’s Ashes

Here is an audacious piece of “performance art” from Berlin based artist Natascha Stellmach, who will smoke Kurt Cobain’s cremated ashes with the intention of “release[ing] Cobain from the media circus and into the ether.” It is beyond me how someone with these intentions could get there hands on anyone’s ashes let alone the iconic figures ashes. Entitled “Set Me Free” details of this act doesn’t stop there…

“Stellmach’s work comprises a ‘death cycle’ of five pieces. The first, a suicide contemplation, entitled It is Black in Here, is a sound piece, written and read by the artist. It was recorded onto a specifically pressed record and is played on a vintage record player. The six-minute poetic meditation on death’s proximity ends with the word ‘gone’.”

“‘Near Death Experience,’ is a text-based work where Kurt Cobain, Adolf Hitler, Diane Arbus and the Brothers Grimm meet in a twilight zone. Two more works, ‘Black Scan’ and ‘Untitled,’ accentuate the purgatory to which dead celebrities are condemned―a large photographic print has the words “Set me free” written in the ashes of Cobain―preempting the climactic work. In ‘Gone,’ Stellmach presents a joint containing Cobain’s ashes, which is held in an antique case engraved with the work’s title. Stellmach intends to smoke this joint at a secret Berlin location with patrons of her work. It represents both the completion of the conceptual project and the final act in an exhibition bound to provoke wide public debate.”
