The Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2012 Collection makes for great viewing with designer Kim Jones finding inspiration from Paris and Tokyo and linking the two with great distinction. Embracing the roots of the fashion house, there is a link to the affinity Louis Vuitton’s son, Georges Vuitton had for Tokyo. Further emphasising the link, Kim Jones took inspiration from the late fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez, someone who notably went to Tokyo for inspiration before it was a city of great desire in the fashion world. The outcome of the collection has seen exquisite fabrics of laboriousness nature included woven silk made to the tune of only 20 cm per day as well as a selection of amazing leathers.

An analysis rather than a retrospective, this parallel Vuitton-Jacobs comparison will provide new insight into the fashion system during its pivotal periods, beginning with its industrialisation and ending with its globalisation, focussing also on its artistic professions and crafts, technological advances, stylistic creations and artistic collaborations. Over a century separates Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, but both come together in the excellence of their creativity at this once in a lifetime exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. This edition of Louis Vuitton City Guide 2012, named “Paris & Perfumes” takes us through an extensive amount of history within couture fashion houses perfumes from the first designer to create a couture fragrance, Paul Poiret to Yves St. Laurent’s Parisienne. The history lesson then transitions into modern day Paris, introducing the exclusive perfume boutiques on Avenue Montagne. The compelling and extremely informational video was produced by Mathias Vayer and directed by Romain Chassaing.

Similar to the Gucci book by Rizzoli, luxery leather manufacturer, Louis Vuitton is geared to release a book by Rizzoli as well. Focusing on customers’ in-store experience, the book will showcase the most memorable Louis Vuitton retail spaces with the provisions of never before seen sketches, blueprints, and mock-ups. With the growing popularity of online stores and virtual shopping, people are starting to lose the appreciation of the physical storefront, and LV is assisting in helping today’s consumer regain it. The 304-page book is to be publish this Fall, and features insights from some of Louis Vuitton’s architectures such as Peter Marino, Christian de Portzamparc, and Jun Aoki. With standard versions costing around $85, there will also be a limited edition version with three photographs on the cover, matched with three monogrammed fabric slipcases in gold, silver and copper, retailing for $130. All versions of the book will be released October 1st at Louis Vuitton retail locations and specialty book stores.

“On June 23, 2011, I was invited by my friend Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear, to create the soundtrack for the Men’s Show. I was more than honored. Kim has a vast knowledge of dance music and it’s culture so it was quite effortless to work with him. The inspiration for the show was African and artist Peter Beard so the tracks had to reflect that energy. The tracks chosen for that were I Zimbra by the Talking Heads and Change Is What We Need (Tee’s Freeze Mix) by House of Gypsies.”
