Recently we previewed this latest collaboration between Visvim and mastermind JAPAN, a project which sees the Skagway High as the canvas. Maintaining a subdued and traditional design the outcome reflects both labels background with the black upper and white accents.

The relationship between Visvim and mastermind JAPAN has really flourished in recent seasons, most notably with footwear. Their latest coming together has seen a backpack and waist pack come to fruition. With detailing second to none we get a closer look at the backpack which features a very interesting monotone all over print which incorporates the branding of both entities. In addition the feature of a Horween Leather is another unique facet which certainly impresses and adds to the quality.

Here is a look at Mastermind Japan’s f/w 2009 collection titled “Serenade”. Showing no signs of slowing down Mastermind Japan has already opened flagship stores in both Macau and Taiwan this year alone, on top of numerous collaborations from bearbrick and G-shock to Gundam and premium bottled water label. This latest collection is again evidence of Masaaki Homma’s attention to detail and strength in adding his own unique twist on classic designs, featuring as usual the skull motif on a predominantly dark colour scheme. Hints of vintage Americana workwear influences can also be seen on items like the denim worker hats to denim jackets and plaid shirts, alongside other heavy knit and outerwear pieces.

Mastermind Japan are making a strong impression at present, having released news of a Rolex Submariner with Bamford Watch Department and now this latest project with Visvim. This original Zephyr boot is an interesting take on the much like UGG boot. Featuring all the quality you could expect from the two, the highlights are the high quality sole and the materials used in the upper.

Levi’s Fenom x mastermind JAPAN Crush Denim

Levi’s Fenom and mastermind JAPAN have worked together on a new rendition of the denim which created such hysteria last year. The expressionalism of mastermind JAPAN is truly evident with numerous logo’s and slogan splashed on the Crush denim. The denim is capped of with the yoke of the denim with studs and Swarovski jewels cemented.

Each piece limited to only 10, this is an exciting release reflecting both the original concept of the label, in addition to the manga feel influenced by Theater8.

Mastermind Japan Flagship Store Opens in Macau

Mastermind Japan recently opened their first flagship outside of Japan, in the casino town of Macau. The opening event was attended by Hong Kong celebrities and designer Masaaki Homma. The day of the opening also marked the release of a limited edition MMJ Macau tee which attracted an army of skull and crossbone-wearing fans. Macau’s recent economic developments have turned it into the Las Vegas of China and Asia’s favourite place for spending disposable income, so it is no surprise to see Masaaki Homma select Macau as the city for their first flagship even in with the current economic situation.

Led by Masaaki Homma (who worked with at Yohji Yamamoto for 8 years prior) Mastermind Japan has certainly come a long way to become one of the most successful labels to come out of Japan, hugely popular for their punk-inspired collections, although we’re not particularly huge fans of the label here at SlamXhype, it’s always interesting to see what this great Japanese label has to offer. Here is a look at a preview of what we can expect from their s/s 2009 collection seen in the lastest issue of Sense magazine, composed of the usual denim, t-shirts and accesories. Most of which includes the obvious skull logo, including a collaboration with Snoopy. Take a look below.
