Slamxhype favourite Neckface has created two limited edition skate decks for Public Domaine, to celebrate his attendance at their skateboard exhibition at La Gaité Lyrique. The decks are adorned with artwork that Neckface originally drew up for a tattoo on Busy P’s left arm, each numbered and signed. 45 units of the white decks and 30 of the brown have been produced so these babies are super limited edition.

“The whole line is basically based off bum wine and stealing shit. Cheap booze and stealing shit to save your money to buy a new board. For skateboarders, that’s nothing new to us. Stealing is part of our deals, we don’t have a lot a money. Hopefully the kids will be able to get their stuff easier and quicker.” Those are Neckface’s exact words in describing the new collection, and Altamont enlists the artists who aided in inspiring the line to model it as well for their look book.

The dar side of Neckface is all to well known to us, having featured him prior to last years exhibition at the OHWOW gallery in Miami for halloween, the artist has done the same for the gallery’s space in Los Angeles. Entitled  “Into Darkness” this video directed by Ty Evans provides a great insight to the collection of works which promise to epitomize the graphic creatures that are a signature of the California native. Opening October 31 this makes for a must see with brands like Supreme and Vans in complete support of Neck Face.

Neckface “Into Darkness” Exhibition Video is a post from: SLAMXHYPE

A solo exhibition of new work by Neck Face will be on show at OHWOW Los Angeles entitled “Into Darkness”. A homecoming presentation (of sorts) for the California native, as Neckface unveils his latest series of drawings, paintings, and sculptures. The exhibition opens on Halloween night with an encore production of the highly publicized performance and installation mounted in Miami, 2009, replete with a full-scale haunted house and skate demo.

While maintaining the hand style and imagery now considered his trademark, this body of work introduces new elements into Neck Face’s visual codex. A collection of watercolors, with vignettes arranged in comic strip format, feature his idiosyncratic, stubble-haired creatures. Awkward and unkempt, these figures are rendered in a stop action narrative, engaged in common activities – playing cards, for example. Staying true to his aesthetic, the depictions are simultaneously violent and humorous, as the final frames of one drawing reveals the bloody result of a card game gone wrong, when one creature ambivalently shoots his opponent between the eyes.

With a series of paintings on panel, he continues his exploration of presenting repartee with an insecure perspective. Phrases like “Trying is the first step to failing,” crudely scrawled over loudly colored, patterned backgrounds, pinpoint the dichotomy between wit and vulnerability. A set of new sculptures follow in the Combine tradition of mixing two-dimensional imagery with three-dimensional objects. Here, the artist adopts a modern art method as his own, reinterpreting the practice of fusing flatness with form, changing the context of objects and materials to present the ordinary with an altered definition. Regardless of the vehicle, Neck Face delivers work with the customary energy and innovation that gained him his notoriety and loyal following.

“Now I Remember” is an exhibition that is the combination of eight different artists who have captured their daily life with their cell phones. Having featured in Tokyo, the exhibition makes its way to Los Angeles with New Image Art the location for the showcase. Featuring Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Jen “JR” Reynolds, Jerry Hsu, Curtis Buchanan, Tino Razo, Aron Bondaroff, and Neckface the list of names makes for compelling viewing when it opens on September 11.

Here is at what regular THE NEW ORDER contributor Keiichi Nitta has compiled for French publication Clark. Working together with another familiar name in Neckface this makes for a compelling issue.

On one side, american artist Neckface drew completely a typography and affixed his style throughout this magazine and on photos of the marginal photographer Keiichi Nitta. Clark asked to Keiichi Nitta to disguise himself as French icons. Under his lens, Brigitte Bardot, Serge Gainsbourg, Amelie Poulain, Marcel Marceau, come back to life in pages and Karl Lagerfeld is on Clark’s cover, with the scissors of Neckface planted in the front.

This collaboration is also to be found on a Collector poster in the magazine.
