This new collection continues Scott Sternberg’s modern, luxury take on preppy, and relaxed formal evening wear that his brand has become synonymous with.  However, it also sees the brand expand even further into a more casual look with tees, casual blouson and leather jackets, summer parkas and shorts.

I’m a big fan of this label.  It takes inspiration from the currently overused preppy style, without making it feel like 1950s fancy dress to offer  a versatile and easy to wear look, especially if you want something more refined and grown up, but still a little bit special. It offers a more mature take on sports wear, but is still smart enough to wear to the office.  Sadly the price tag and sizing (Band Of Outsiders comes up ridiculously small) make it a prohibitive purchase for many… but that only adds to the uniquness.

Located in Soho House in the Meat Packing district of New York, Petrou Man held their Spring Summer 2011 collection presentation today. Taking place in a quaint little drinking room adorned in leather couches and walls of books the boys played classic board games, ate cake and read books. Some caged in by larger than life top-half body braces littered in confetti and colored images gave the already colorful and print-heavy collection so much of a feast for the eyes.

We grabbed some images from the presentation for you. We were liking the new sandals too..

High end New York sneaker brand Common Projects recently surprised by diversifying their range by adding some impressive formal footwear, taking this one stage further they have worked with designer Robert Geller on this pair of hiking boots.  Created specifically for Geller’s runway show at New York Fashion Week, these antiqued boots with a buckle top a more rugged and less refined aesthetic than we  would expect from the label.

Italian Moncler presented their new Grenoble 2010 Fall Winter collection at New York Fashion week this week which was a visual feast. On the edge of the Hudson River, Moncler built a four story scafolding structure to present their new collection of both menswear and womenswear.

GQ described the atmosphere and collection best, “Space-age ski-suits, and close-fitting, down-filled and quilted jackets, in techno-nylon and micro-rip stop, were set alongside ribbed sweaters, furs and long, full, treated-canvas skirts, banded at the hem in reflective nylon, which were inspired by 1950s designs from the Moncler archives.

The customary palette of metallic grey and matt black was spiced with shades of wine, chocolate and cream. Snug hoods, caps, gaiters, leggings, ski-goggles and boots, completed the effect of an army of piste and off-piste warriors.

Strict functionality was built into many of the pieces. The trousers, for example, were slim enough to be worn in an urban setting, but featured “bellows” at the bottoms of the legs, which could be opened out to accommodate ski-boots.”

New York based Swede Patrik Ervell’s 2010 collection continues his intellectual and minimal approach to menswear with his Fall/Winter 2010 presentation at New York Fashion Week.  Featuring a fairly subdued colour palette of black,  grays, creams, blues and white he adopts a fitted and more structured approach than previous seasons that seem both formal and casual at the same time.  Timeless is perhaps one of the most overused phrases in menswear at the moment but its perfectly apt for this collection which echoes the preppy early 60s look that we know so well right now, with a real modernist edge to the cut.  I particularly like the way he uses translucent chiffon scarfs and plastic raincoats to soften the look.

Artist turned fashion designer George McCracken presented his 2010 Fall/Winter collection at John Connelly Presents Contemporary Art Gallery this past Monday. The presentation of his collection is very intimate and efficient with models standing on platforms and rotating every 2 minutes. The collection itself is very understated and American. Another interesting point is that Mr. McCracken used one female model during the presentation. “I always love a tailored piece on a woman. I think it looks amazing if it’s done right,” said McCracken. “It’s all based on textures,” revealed the designer when questioned about his theme behind his collection. “This season, they were really classic, but with some kind of twist. For example, the wool flannel has a resin coating and the cottons are blended with metal or paper.” He describes his clothes as “very masculine,” and we would have to agree.
