Continuing their relationship together Opening Ceremony has unveiled their Spring/Summer collection with shirt makers Gitman Brothers. Keeping with their playful personality Opening Ceremony decided on some whimsical prints on Poplin and colorful Madras shirts. Also, exclusive to the collection is a shirt for Valentine’s day featuring a heart motif. My personal favorite being the “Black Rabbit Shroom” shirt.

By now you have probably seen the debut Kenzo collection by new creative directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony. The women’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection was a huge success and brought a whole new feel to the legendary brand. Terence Koh is almost as well known for his unique all white style as he is his conceptual art. The NY based artist and style icon collaborates with Opening Ceremony yet again and with Forfex on this Furry Moon boot. The shoe contains a pure white forfex sneaker, hidden beneath a thick layer of snow-white faux fur. with soles that look like the surface of the moon, and laces that wrap around the foot like moccasin bindings. To commemorate their 75 anniversary, Maine based shoemakers Bass have teamed up with Opening Ceremony to re-interpret these American classics. What was originally a Scandinavian Moccasin would influence G.H. Bass to make his version of the penny loafer calling it Weejuns (like Norwegian). The retailers known for their already fantastic collaborations utilized a high quality leather and re-did 2 loafers in a beautiful blue and deep burgundy. This is probably my favorite project OC has ever done.

Belgian retailer Hunting and Collecting has become a strong favourite of since opening in 2009, and they have adopted another strong concept for their autumn/winter 2011 offerings.

“In combat one has to be flexible, improvise, do what others don’t do – so it is that time of the year where we change the complete interior look of the store and the graphic design. The Fall Winter 2011 Interior at Hunting and Collecting is inspired on the ‘J’ardin d’Hiver – Wintergarden’ – no snowman, no mountains, no skiing, but a colonial feel of exotic plants inside a warm winter garden – minimal as usual. All pictures by Tine Claerhout”

At Opening Ceremony, each year marks a new opportunity to immerse shoppers in the fashion, culture, and character of a new country. Opening Ceremony is pleased to announce Argentina as its country of focus for 2011-2012.

On Fashion’s Night Out, Opening Ceremony will present el mercado de carnival de Opening Ceremony, a carnival market inspired by Argentina and featuring special appearances by Miss Piggy and live dance performances outfitted by Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Suno, and Opening Ceremony. Opening Ceremony has partnered with Tumblr to upload live content throughout the night from guests and participants. An array of designers will offer fun products, games, and activities throughout the evening.

In keeping with its appreciation for iconic heritage labels, Opening Ceremony is joining forces with the 125-year-old textile company Alpargatas to create several specialty styles, from casual shoes to engineered workwear, exclusively for Opening Ceremony. As the leading purveyor of the traditional jute-soled “alpargatas” sandal, Alpargatas spearheads several textile and footwear brands under its umbrella, including Pampero (workwear), Flecha (casual shoes), Rueda (traditional sandals), and Topper (athletic apparel). In partnership with each of these four labels, Opening Ceremony is developing a range styles, from primary color sneakers with contrasting gum soles to sport-influenced apparel pieces. This is the first time Alpargatas is sold in the United States.

Opening Ceremony is also carrying Argentine designers, such as JUNGLE Vi.Ai.Pi., Ale Sly, and Chicco Ruiz, to customize styles, colorways, and fabrications for its clientele. Opening Ceremony exclusives with these designers will be available starting in September 2011. Select Argentine designers and brands like Yanina Solnicki of El Camarín, Arandú, Paula Selby Avellaneda, and María Pryor will be sold exclusively at Opening Ceremony boutiques. These special projects and collections are just a taste of what to expect at Opening Ceremony this Fall.
