KAWS, and his brand Original Fake are the latest entity to reinterpret the iconic Snoopy character Peanuts. The outcome is simple but effective, with much of the structure mainatining the core aesthetic of the character which has been seen on comic strips all over the world. The addition of a well modified yellow tee, highlighted by the “JOE KAWS” slogan and the sunglasses adorning the all to familiar “XX” mark this makes for a compromising release which will surface at Original Fake and KAWSONE.com very soon.

Here is a look at three key collaborations that are part of the Original Fake Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. Working together with Porter, Loopwheeler and NEXUSVII(R), each piece reflects each entities famed composition. The Porter tote bag features a ballistic material, while the Loopwheeler varsity jacket in sweat is defined by their unique way of weaving the cotton while the water repellant parka with NEXUSVII(R) is defined by the use of Gore-Tex.

Flat out one of my favourite artists, New York’s Erik Parker has collaborated with his good friend KAWS and his brand, Original Fake on a tee shirt. This is the first time Parker has collaborated on any fashion projects, and probably a rare opportunity. The tee is available as part of the Original Fake 2011 Fall collection.

We weren’t 100% sure but we made a pretty good guess that Medicom’s announcement during the week of a project entitled OriginalFake ID would be a customisable online system for OriginalFake products, it seem’s we were right. You can now visit the store to buy your own customisable tee, made up of a typeface created by KAWS himself, for approx. $115 USD. I have a feeling this may only last a while… so be quick, bounce here.

Till now ‘ID’ or customizable programs have been in main part kept to the likes of large brands such as Nike or Converse who have the resources to be able to complete the production. Medicom Toy, who might not be a start up or small brand, certainly aren’t on that multi-national scale of the forementioned brands, have given us a hint that alongside their OriginalFake brand with the legendary KAWS, they may offer something similar. We’ll have to stay tuned to see if this is the case, but at the very least it does open up thoughts around companies on a smaller scale maybe just as capable if not more capable of working with their customers to create unique offerings.

After much buzz, we can now release the details of the upcoming Wooden Companion Figure by KAWS. The collaboration between KAWS’ OriginalFake and furniture company Karimoku will see its launch on May 28th, at OriginalFake’s Tokyo Flagship store. The companion will be limited to 100 signed editions retailing at ¥252,000 (approx. $3,119 USD).
