Japanese tee label A Package From Art Decades have completed another impressive collaboration with pioneering photographer Ricky Powell. Celebrating the his 25th anniversary of capturing some of the most influential musicians, artist and actors this collection picks out some of the finest. Featuring the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Spike Lee, the line will be available from November 30 from Isetan Shinjuku.

Talking about his inspiration which is derived from early American animation to classic Expressionist painters. One topic of conversation surrounds the development of Dalek’s “iconic Space Monkey character” while we get a look inside the artists studio.

“They’re just kinda meandering through life, kinda bouncing from one thing to the next, like we all are,” says Dalek of his Space Monkey Character in a video interview with Ricky Powell. “We start out empty and just kind of fill ourselves up along the way. Spit out shit, pick up new shit.”

Ricky Powell is an iconic photographer, and thats how we know him best, but he’s also a key connector, a centre piece of the NYC street scene. ‘Rappin with the Rickster’ will showcase this in every way, when it releases as a DVD. It’s always intrigued me that there haven’t been more DVD’s from our scene made and distributed, perhaps this is a turning point for a new decade. Veteran graffiti writer Quik’s work has been integral to New York graff culture. Throughout the 1970’s and 80’s, his vibrant, bubble letter pieces covered NYC trains and subways. As one of the era’s influential writers, his tags appeared alongside the work of artists such as Zephyr, Futura 2000, and Revolt. Quik’s paintings have since been displayed in galleries and museums in New York, Amsterdam, and throughout Europe.
