The most recent issue of A MAGAZINE makes for interesting news with the publication curated by Rodarte who in turn explores the world of Kate and Laura Mulleavy – Pasadena, California visionaries. This comprehensive piece features 200 pages of photography, art, interviews and personal contributions highlighting the Mulleavy’s vision of America with the magazine providing a greater insight into the West Coast. In addition the magazines includes commissioned portfolios from actresses Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning, along with artists Jay DeFeo, John Baldesarri and Josh Whedon define the magazine which will release worldwide in December.

With the introduction of loose knitted garments making a re appearance into street style, brands such as Rodarte have re adopted the loopy-knitted structures into high end luxury garments. So it is no surprise to see that influence hit the streetwear brands in a more wearable (and affordable) product. While we’re already seeing some early Spring/Summer 2010 collections arriving in stores, and of course our minds are focussed on whats next, Rodarte have released their Holiday 2009 collection. The Rodarte sisters have even thrown something in their for us guys too, with unisex tee’s and sweats, created by Autumn de Wilde and David Benjamin Sherry. The recent Rodarte exhibition at Colette in Paris featured a series of canvases painted by Kim Gordan of Sonic Youth. Now these dripping brush painted graffiti style slogans, which are similar to the cover of recent Sonic Youth record “Sacred Trickster”, are now available to purchase through Colette.

Opening up their creative mind scape, Rodarte adorn the walls of colette with the latest inspirations that stand behind their collections. From Kim Gordon’s graffitied canvases with tags like “Pussy Galore” and “Noise Nomads”, a genuinely crazed fan letter addressed to Kirsten Dunst which has also been enlarged onto a poster that guests can take with them, Elliott Hundley’s crumpled up “Mom As Medusa” print, David Benjamin Sherry’s hyper reality images, and fairytale scenes by Karen Kilimnik of queens and fairies. Other than the walls there is also a curated shop where Rodate’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection is on offer along with one-off or limited items like rag dolls made by the girls themselves dressed in Rodarte style garments. Collaborations with Repetto create ballet flats in signature Rodarte marble print, and contributions from designers such as Nicholas Kirkwood, David Shrigley, Dennis Cooper, Marc Kroop, Miranda July and Opening Ceremony are also on offer.
