Influenced by calligraphy and motion, Rostarr’s gestural paintings push viewers’ perceptions of form and depth. Presenting his work as a fusion of graphic art, design, and the “laws governing the movement of energy,” he fluidly melds his interests in pattern, iconography, and abstraction. Rostarr’s work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in Sydney, Singapore, Europe, Japan, and the United States. He’s also worked on clothing and skateboard collaborations with companies such as Nike, Converse, and Turntable Lab. Rostarr “Murano Glass” Scultpures

Last week we talked about Rostarr exhibition “Oculus Velocitas” opening at Galleria II Trifoglio Nero over the weekend. For the show the renown artist has worked in the famous Pino Signoretto factory creating three remarkable sculptures out of the famous Murano Glass. With the pieces hand crafted, the attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the sculptures, with the pure finish something to appreciate. Watch the process come together below.

Converse continues its fight against AIDS, by teaming up with artists as part of their 1HUND(RED) project. Next up in the series is Rostarr, the Korean New York based artist who is best known for his east-meets-west art work. For this make-up Rostarr based his design off of African masks that are worn during ceremonial events in which social, religious and moral values are the focus.

Available for viewing at the FOTO8 website now is a 10 minute short film titled “Moving Window“, consisting entirely of still photographs and spoken diary entries, a visual travelog that documents the travels of artists Suitman, Jose Parla, Rostarr and Deanne Cheuk as they embark on a journey through China and engage in a cultural exchange. “Moving Window” is Russo’s visual and aural document of this trip. It is scheduled to be screened as part of an upcoming show at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, NYC in Spring of 2010. ROSTARR’s ‘Wreckless Abandon’ Exhibition

Scheduled to open on the 11th of October at the Oh-Wow gallery in Miami is Rostarr’s first solo exhibition which will showcase work that demonstrates the imaginative ways in which Rostarr has reached across his design output and known creative persona to re-invent his art and himself today. Rostarr has been a key figure in New York City’s underground art scene and was a part of the urban improvisers ‘the Barnstormers’ collective. His free-formed work comes across as a universe of abstract and geometrical shapes from which symbolic and iconographic elements emerge in elegant and incisive gestural strokes, and is defined by an expression he calls ‘Graphysics’, meaning the fusion of graphic art and design and the physical laws governing the movement of energy. His work extends into the mediums of painting, digital media, sculpture, textile and public art projects.

From the same people that brought you A-Rons Back Door book and the Young and the banging book. This exhibition will run until the 8th of November. So make sure you mark it on your calendar if you happen to be in the area during this period.
