Last year saw Steve Powers complete an amazing project entitled ‘Love Letter’ which saw the graffiti artist leave large scale messages all over the US. The New York based artist continues this large scale work into the new year with this new piece entitled “Train To Always,” located in Brooklyn. This is likely to be the first of many thought provoking pieces for 2012.

Steve Powers AKA ESPO, has taken his hugely successful and touching Love Letter Project from Philadelphia to Syracuse. A Love Letter to Syracuse sets out to bridge communities.

“The goal of the project is to ultimately bridge the Near Westside community to downtown, which will give access to new markets and resources for residents in the neighborhood,” says Maarten Jacobs, director of the Near Westside Initiative.

Steve ‘ESPO’ Powers talks at a conference in New York City about his background as an artist with very personal touches and humor. The stories are great, and funny, and they give a great insight into the motives and inspirations for a lot of his work from years ago. It is an interesting watch. Im not sure who the audience was but it sounds as though they are having a lot of fun!

Steve Powers Year Long ‘Love Letter’ project is finally complete, and to celebrate the Philadelphia based artist has a week long of events planned in his home town.

“On Friday, Feb. 12, a special exhibit documenting the year long planning and creation of the multi-site public mural project will open, followed by a book signing on Saturday at Exit Skateshop. But the real treat will go down on Valentine’s Day, when Powers himself hops aboard a privately chartered elevated SEPTA El train to MC (“working on my train announcer chops,” he hints) a special Love Train Tour of the 50 rooftop murals that comprise the installation. The tour will be followed by a reception at SEPTA’s Grand Mezzanine. Space is limited for this event and tickets are required.”

We’re hoping ESPO has just an exciting next year planned for us too!

ESPO is about to open the Love Letter Tattoo Shop for a week long takeover, where the only Tattoo’s will be of Steve Powers art. If you’re in Philadelphia this is a pretty amazing opportunity, I’ve personally always wanted one of Power’s pieces tattooed, I wish I could make it. The takeover is of course set up alongside the launch the release of the artists book documenting his public art project Love Letter in Philadelphia.

Continuing to beautify the street of Philidelphia,Steve Powers aka ESPO, has been battling the blizzard of the christmas season and spreading his ‘A Love Letter For You’ project. We had a look at the starts of his mural project back in October 2009 here, where he returned back to his home town of Philadelphia to work with The Mural Arts Program and local artists to create a series of more than thirty huge text-based murals. With the last several murals popping up on 48th, 49th, and 50th streets the project is now completed.

Steve “ESPO” Powers has opened his latest exhibition, entitled “This Woman’s Work”, with the usual air of expectation. Delivering, and holding nothing back this show at White Wall sin San Francisco comes on the back of the hugely well regarded Philadelphia Love Letter Project. As part of this exhibition is an installation featuring masses of tyres, as well the plenty of hand painted metal signs and finally ESPO has tagged all over the walls to add his own unique touch.
