Once again teaming up with Japanese designer Taka Hayashi, Vans Vault presents their new lineup of shoes for this coming Spring 2012 season featuring classic inspirations and eye-catching material combinations. The entire collection includes sturdy crepe soles, buckles, high quality stitching and the use of suede and leather silhouettes. Expect the Taka Hayashi collection to hit Vans Vault retailers starting this February.

Vans Vault introduces their new experimental design studied by Taka Hayashi, entitled Espadrille TH LX for their upcoming Fall 2011 collection. This designer drew his inspiration from traditional Japanese footwear, that use Basque canvas and hemp materials in their construction, to create an original version chukka style shoe. Featuring suede uppers, leather interior, with a coating hemp midsole, toe and heel, the TH Espadrille LX will be made in 6 colorways taupe, black, cream, biarritz, marseilles and montpellier. They will be available in July from Vans Vault account holders.

Taka Hayashi’s take on the Vans SK8 Hi has certainly breathed new life  - not that it needed it – into one of the brand’s all time great shoes. First seen as part of this season’s Vans Vault collection, Taka’s Sk8-Hi LX was well received with its unique look via the application of a leather wall surrounding the sides and heel areas of the shoes. Out of the three different pairs, this one is by far my favorite. This very tasteful version comes in an off white that is accented beautifully by the dark brown of the leather.

Here is a great piece from the continuing project between Vans Vault and Taka Hayashi. Taking the iconic Sk8-Hi as the canvas, Hayashi has applied a leather panel to the side of the shoe that defines the design while the sneaker is completed with a feather embroidery on tongue and heel.

A couple of months ago, we gave you a look at a new style from Vans Vault called the Derby designed by Taka Hayashi and just recently, it has began to hit Vault retailers in the US. Since joining Vans, Taka has gone on to create some really unique styles for Vault such as the Akat, as well as reworking some of their classics like the SK8 Hi. For this release, Taka utilized a classic Derby silhouette and added his own distinct art work along with a crepe sole making for a very nice touch.

Taka Hayashi’s ongoing series for Vans Vault seems to never put a foot wrong, whilst still taking risks in creating unique and new designs. For Spring 2011, Hayashi has brought his flavour to the classic Sk8-Hi LX, and in doing so created a shoe thats barely recognisable as its original.
